So, did anyone come home and think "God I wish I didn't have/use XX piece of gear?"
Any lesson's learned or bits of kit that proved unworthy? Tyre reports? Awning failures? Bolt holes in the vehicle body that need covering up to stop the dust, etc. etc.?
Tyre report. This was my first trip on the new KM2s in a 33 and they were awesome, handled everything perfectly. Great on bitumen, great on gravel, great on sand, great on dirt. The only thing we didn't try was mud!
You could have covered every single little hole and dust would still have made its way in. I spent about 5 hours getting the dust out of my car today and the interior is in showroom condition
I didn't see any dust?? What dust??? What trip were you on mate? There wasn't any dust!
How depressing...back at work now, just got home, turned the tv on and your4x4 is on now and they are doing a trip through the outback...sad panda!!!
When are we heading back!!!
I am starting to get cabin fever being at home now, all my mates are at work.
I forgot to mention but the two turnbuckles that secure the back of my drawers came undone on this trip too, one was very very loose and the other completely undone and in two pieces. I HATE CORRUGATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone get any vids of the Simmo crossing?
Stropp got a couple of days worth, haha
I have been reading this thread religiously! Looks like a great trip was had.
Myself and some mates from Tassie are planning to tackle the Simmo in mid-September.
All of this dust talk has got me umming and awing about adding one of those uni filter Safari snorkel sock things for my aftermarket turbo-ed gq td42.
Is this a worthy purchase or am I better off just shaking the normal air filter out? Anyone run these things and if so no terrible impact on fresh air flow?
Top thread and trip guys! Keep the photos coming.

WOW, looks like you did a good job destroying that tyre stropp, it's rooted!!
Good to hear you and the rest of the crew make it home safely, looking forward to the trip report and photos to come, especially yours Snicko, I'm sure it will be very comprehensive as usual.
Have unpacked but not yet got stuck into cleaning the car yet, tomorrows job. Have done a service tho and bought some new front door hinges top and bottom both sides. That should get rid of a few rattles a couple more to track down tho . . Bloody corrugations.
Yeh rossco with the corrugated roads I didn't feel the tyre go real quick but then I thought that's more than a rough road, whoops too late, I'm still trying to load the video.

Cool! Sounds tough mate
That can't be big red, looks like you are going for a leisurely stroll in the sand
Thanks mate it's taken 3 weeks to get this far lol. Ps maybe the rejoicing voice should be edited too lol I think there is an expletive or two in it
Stropp well done!!! The vid is excellent!!!!! Really worth doing Big Red again so we can all see it!!! Thanks
Nice video mate - what's the story with the sand flag attached to the antenna?Quote:

Looks like fun for the first 20k's.... Not 140 !!!
Forgot to mention that when we were at the dig tree there's a crossing over the river which cuts out atleast 30-45 minutes of the trip.
I saw it on your4x4 show the other night.
Too late and too far now AB :) mind you if you want to go again :p
