but want to do similar thus the stupid questions

Have you taken it for a drive with the roof like that yet?
Not yet. Had too many beers last night but trip to work this morning will tell what it's like.
It's bloody quiet. I can put the radio on volume number 1 and still hear it while driving.
Geeze now we are getting special.
Good job though mate.
Did you dynamat to or just the foam?
Check the previous page westy...
ok awesome job first up, 2nd approx all up cost and how long approx
Must feel sort of surreal now does it?
Its relatively straight forward removing the headliner. Remove the pinch welds from the top of the door frames on the body and the headliner is only glued on. Easy to remove with a finger nail then rip it off. Holds up very well and is hard to tear. The rear sliding windows and front windscreen, the headliner is tucked into the rubber seals, but it's only a matter of gently pulling the liner and it will slide out in one piece. The headliner also goes down the A and B pillar, but again, only glued on and will come off easily. Will need to remove the seatbelt bolt to remove it in one piece. Then there are metal rods in the roof that hold it all up. Rotate the rod forward and pull them out of the holes. Repeat for all and the liner should be removed! May need to loosen the interior lights, but the headliner will slip over them.
Have you put the headlining back in or going for something different?
I'm looking to remove a few sections so I can run some wiring around up there. How easy do you expect it to be to put back?

Not planning on putting it back in. Going to make my own headliner and line it with the same black carpet that most of my interior is.
Edit: Drew, what kind of wiring are you putting up? It wouldn't be too difficult to remove small sections to run the wiring.
Power and coms to roof console and a few other odds and ends.....

Hey Cameron
I did make another thread somewhere about how to weld it and I did get some very good replies on how to do it. I can't remember the specifics of it, I'll see if I can find the thread...
Edit, found.

Thanks Parksy (and also Macca86!). It all makes sense, but I thought it was a good opportunity just to take it in. Was pretty sure one of the pros would give some advice, as they did. Looks like it has come up fine for you too.
Couple of toys arrived today.

Even thought about replacing the gearbox today. Took one look at it and gave up...

I am still hoping you will suddenly say yes guys I am coming to the Australia Day meet up.... not far at all from your place mate... wink wink nudge nudge !!
Haha where is the meet up Jono? I will have to do it one day.
Threads here Parksy..... http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...ad.php?t=29510
Near ACT huh? That's about 2 hours from my place. Not far at all.
Gonna be one not to be missed parksy!
Sounds that way. Will have to try my best. Unfortunately work and babies dictate my life at the moment but who knows, maybe a day trip is on the cards...
Installed new ignition coil. Got rid of the occasional miss I had at idle and revs much better.

It's the big red box on the firewall. Four nutserts and it's not going anywhere.
Killed my drill drilling the radius arm bolt holes.

Hard to take a photo of the smoke, but this was after a 5 min wait.
So desperate times call for desperate measures...

Had to remove the front of the press drill for it to fit... Bloody horrible job.
That does look like a 100% bastard of a job mate
Yep I hated every minute of it. Got quite good at sharpening drill bits though. And drilling through welds is a bitch. That metal is bloody hard!
Bearing kit arrived today. Big box full of many little boxes. Was like Christmas.
Was keen to put a couple in...

Back of the engine without seal. Welsh plugs look in excellent shape.

The old spigot bearing. Was making an awful hum when clutch was depressed. Was not the release bearing!
Used a 16mm bolt, a 4pound hammer and bread to remove. Worked bloody well.

Should add, I asked a couple of mates if they wanted to give me a hand. All of a sudden, everyone is busy. Doing this solo.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...CF63698C31.jpg
How the hell do you solo a gearbox out and back in? Those bastards are heavy!
Lookin good.
Hopes and dreams and lots of swearing.
Awesome job Parksy, what is the paint you have used on the gearbox mate? POR15 or just a gloss black?
Looking forward to seeing your roof lining.
