So it looks like there are not too many camper trailers going now...... I still think we are bring ours due to the extended time coming back to Perth after the crossing.

You could leave it at Dalhousie springs and take the link road back after the crossing and pick it up...or do a double crossing and head back and pick it up. There might be a few WA guys heading back the other way, maybe have that chat in your planning thread.
Worth consideration. 5 to 8 days out of your trip in a tent is not a bad deal ;)
Trying to decide whether to bring the entire tribe.....wife and 3 kids (5,7 and 10yo)
The big thing is the amount of "stuff" required and water!! By my calculations 6 litres of water per person per day x 10 days equals 300 litres! That's a heck of a lot of weight before I even add 220+ litres of ULP. That's almost leaving me no weight to carry passengers.
Any thoughts?
Tip tip tip......tap tap tap....
Not sure on availability but I would assume you wouldn't need 10 days worth of water ... Maybe 5 days and fill up where possible!!
Scotty
drew mate theres water at dalhousie springs depending on which way we go to birdsville if the tele track
its approx 436ks 3or 4 days and maybe 12hours depending on what you want to see
you wont need 300l of water unless your bathing every night im hopeing to carry at least 80l to allow for a wash
dont leave your family at home they will benifit from the adventure of a lifetime
work out what the kids need then halve it to travel light
have a look at this Simpson desert French line @exploroz
Yeah Drew this is a once in a life time mate! Can't leave them behind. You won't need anywhere near that much water mate.
When I did the Madigan Line I was away for 2 weeks and took 90 lts of water. 3x20lt Jerry's for dishes and cooking and 3x10lt casks from the supermarket for drinking.
I took precooked rice and heated it in a saucepan of boiling water that I then used to wash the dishes. Don't take dehydrated food you need to add water to like dry pasta. Cook it at home and cryovac it. Buy your meat in SA on the last day of civilisation and it will have a long used by date that will see you through the trip without freezing.
Bring the family mate, my wife Naomi and 2 kids 8yo boy and 3yo girl will be travelling with me. Can't wait. No trailer. You will work it out mate.
Hey Roofy,
You can buy precooked rice already to go in single meal portions from any supermarket relatively cheaply. only about $3 a meal it turns out to be (a Family Meal portion) so i did not even bother pre cooking my own at that price, i just bought enough for my trip.
I have a Cryovac Machine too and precooked a couple of Chicken curries and vacced them but the red meat i ended up buying the freshest i could and had stuff with 2 to 3 weeks in the Used by date. Sliced Ham in single serves and salami all come with a month or more of Used by date form the meat section.
We even stopped 2 days into the trip in SA and grabbed another couple of Meat portions while grabbing Vegies as i could not bring them from home and got stuff that i had on the last couple of nights in teh desert. Worked Great.
Shop smart and you can do it really simply and eat well.
Buy Bread on the last day of shops and that will last a couple of days then Wraps for the rest.
For those looking for a drawer system to go on this trip.......
http://bit.ly/16rgnuw
For a home built one it looks quite good but I reckon he's asking a bit much for the buy it now price.....
Tip tip tip......tap tap tap....
Considering I just whipped my up for $300... 16mm ply is overkill.. it'll be 50 odd kilos alone..
Also just to mention if you fit it to a gu you will need to shorten it..

Thats actually not a bad price considering it Includes the Cargo Barrier and the water tank! I agree though 16mm is far to heavy for what you need and that is a BIG single drawer!.
Ow that's included.. well not so bad then. Sure it looks neat but yea a lot of dead weight

Just down the road from me. I am in, pending a couple of things that I am pretty sure I can work around. You guys have been making all the right noises with kids coming and all that. I will bring the missus and our brooding hormonal 13 year old daughter... "July 2014 at Dalhousie Springs and then over the Simpson Desert as our meetup." what does "over the Simpson desert mean? from Dalhousie that could be in a couple of different directions.
Seeyuzthen.
A mystery tour.... Sounds good. Someone mentioned Birdsville pub. I am assuming that we would not get that close to the pub and not have a beer there... BTW that part of the world is quite crowded these days. There is even the odd toymota that manages to get that far!!
Sorry mate, our forum meet ups are dry events... no alcohol allowed...............
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
No I do believe they get that far but they are trucked in!
Perhaps I was a tad delusional......
It would be good if we got people attending this from each state and territory..... Any Taswegans coming?
at this stage there is an Organising Thread in each State section on this forum and a LARGE contingent from QLD (16 at last count), a good crew from WA, a good crew from SA, a good crew from Vic, ACT....well theres Kris ;) and all in all this will be upwards of 25 to 40 cars i reckon!!!
This is a
NOT TO BE MISSED EVENT
Hey guys I posted earlier about planning your food and will probably put a thread up on the subject as it is well worth discussing. Plenty of people get worried about it, I surely did heading into the Madigan Line trip.
Just been to Aldi and grabbed some Hame for the young blokes lunch for next week and thought I'd post some pics.
Bought today 18/05/2013. Used by 11/7/2013!!! Makes Ham sandwiches easy to have!!
Attachment 29406Attachment 29407
Enough for 4 good sandwiches in each pouch. There is 4 lunches there!!
Ill be investing in a crio-vac soon enough.. have a full roast meal ready in 2 bags..
But also tinned food it a go'er.

I picked one up from Aldi a few months ago for $60. They sell them from time to time.
Tip tip tip......tap tap tap....
Why do people insist on using the word "beer" and "VB" in the same sentence?? Surely VB is not considered to be a beer??
If you want a really good beer from Victoria, head to the Red Hill brewery for a visit and sample some locally brewed beer from their own hop crops.... Yummy.
Clicked over the 400 days to go folks!!!!
Time for another Poll i think!
