by way i have to antenna on my rig a uhf which is the black one then there is a bigger white one not quite sure wat it for thinking phone but no cradle in side for any phone any ideas
and also with my uhf ppl can hear me from ages away but i cnt hear them unles there right near me any thoughts

Apart from that - dunno :-) There are a couple of people on hear who know more about UHF than me (not difficult!) and they might be able to assist. UHF is designed for line of sight only. If you get any further than that, it's a bonus. Ask your local retailer about the different types of aerials.
Another option is to put your aerial on top of your roof rack. Remember the trees and low undercover parking areas though.
The higher your aerial is, the more chance you have of talking to someone. Try sitting on top of a hill. You'll be amazed at the extra range you get.
