Anyone fitted these to a GQ? Got any photos? @MudRunnerTD replied to an earlier post, but going to look at/buy tomorrow, just wanted some feedback and a photo of a set fitted if possible.

Phil I've seen plenty of pictures of these wheels on a GQ, but of course now that I am looking I can't find one.
I like the look of them for what it's worth.

Thanks Chris, I am going to trial fit tomorrow morning, as lomg as they dont foul on the brakes i will take them. trying to accumulate 10 of them for the Willwood Brake Upgrade thats in the pipeline - need 17" rims minimum, and don't want to go any larger as my max tyre size is 33", and really want as much sidewall for deflation when required.
Yep. Theres a mint GQ going around my way with these wheels on. GQ and GU are same/same wheel fitment wise. Just the offsets vary between user, for steelies anyway.
They actually look good on the GQ's too.
I thought there was a member on here in WA who had these wheels something like MD42TD??? maybe??
OK, his pics are under Moneybucket, wheels look great, winner I reckon, unsure if 16 or 17" though.Attachment 82393Attachment 82394Attachment 82395Attachment 82396
17's mate. Pretty sure, all the GUIV onwards alloy rims were 17's. I do know they came out in 17 inch so its a winner. They look nice on the GQ's.
Going out this morning to pick them up, tyres are rooted but don't want them anyway. Photos look good on the reference vehicle. As long as they are not cracked or bent I am happy. Not buying them for the look as such, more the clearance on the new brake assy. Have to get the alloy rim nuts next.
They do look good though. I think I have a full set of nuts to suit the gq alloys which may work for you? They are not doing me any good as I don't have the wheels now.

I think, the GQ Nuts for the alloys are different to the GU nuts. The GQ have a shank on them from memory which go into the bolt eye of the rim. The GU's still use the conventional tapered nut. I'd have to look at the parts program to be sure though...
PeeBee,
The later model 17" GU Alloys look great, but scratch up pretty quickly in the bush due to the flat face .... mine look a little ordinary now.
Just something to keep in mind if you are going to buy them....
17" GU Alloys definitely have a tapered nut with no shank.
I bought a pack of spare nuts from Patrolapart for my spares kit, so they should be easy enough to get. I don't remember them being too costly.
OK, just rang PAP and the nuts they say to use are the ones with the taper on them, which are the same as the ones I have on the truck now, and have plenty of spares of, so @Winnie, i think I am ok. I will try these first of course and come back if they are different. the guy i spoke with recommended the $3 nuts, not factory genuine at $6 each. They also have plenty of the 17" alloys in stock from pristine to barked up so i think I will head there for the top up set later on.
Just make sure the taper is right Phil. Those GUIV Alloys were renowned for coming off. So much so that Nissan did a safety recall on them and added wheel nut cap markers like you see on the Mines to ensure owners noticed if the nuts where coming loose.
They are 17 x 8 with a +10 offset. They look pretty good painted Black too.
Thanks Darren. Speaking with PAP today they were recommending the same nuts I have on my steel wheels, not even the Nissan nuts, but I will ring the local dealer tomorrow and ask the question and get the factory recommended part number, just to be sure. I was thi9nking about the black funny enough. but wonder how durable a painted black finish on aluminum will stand up and how much gouges will stick out black on silver - might run them silver first then mod it later - what finish is recommended - do you know or do they anodise finish the wheels?
I trial fitted one wheel and they do look good, sit in slightly under the flare line as well, instead of right on with the ones I have now.
Hydro Dipping alloy rims with fully sick patterns for the Vic High Country is all the rage these days Philstar :-(

True true, save your money actually Brother, they’ll look the same soon enough anyways :-)

True story sorry Philstar!
My most favourite and widely used onboard tool and many others before in our VHC is a Mash Hammer [emoji106]

This exact model (400mm) I’ve personally relied on for many years, older blokes with stronger arms tought get by with old school wooden handle shorter/lighter but far more aggressive swings on rims/guards/bars etc....:-)

Phil, mate, use a flat cut alloy rim nut, not a chamfered steel rim nut for your alloy rims. Big friction increase.

Philstar, I honestly can’t thank you enough for the years of mechanical & electrical engineering assistance, you’re vast knowledge has always been my nuffy bush hack saving grace, really appreciated Mate [emoji3590][emoji106][emoji106]
Please let me guide you on maybe the only one thing I might have experience on (bad in fact) that alloy rims are Fair Dinkum dangerous in and out of our shared Victorian rocky tracks!
As mentioned today, alloys may or may not haunt you during track adventures but my experience of hairline cracks at highway speeds exploding soon after are enough for me to please pass on a horrible day near had :-(

Thanks Plassy, I am going to call my Nissan dealer this morning to find out what their company recall was all about and what the company engineering decision was. I also need to have a closer look at the hole configuration in the rim to see if it it machined to suit a stepped nut such as this. Is the pic of the stepped nut off a GU alloy or the tri star GQ alloy?
Just spoke with Nissan and first the spares manager said the rims needed to be run with flat faced nuts, however when I pointed out they are machined for taper nuts and there are witness marks where the taper nuts have been used, he then said, well, use taper nuts!!. He said there has never been a recall or service note on patrol rims or nuts, but there was a recall notice on Navara rims. he did say the patrols have an embedded harmonic issue and nuts have only ever come loose on the back LH wheel, so recommended the plastic telltale devices, and go with taper nuts.

He is Full of SHit
Note that thread is 2010. If he is a young bloke that knows everything maybe he was still in Primary school then.......
His validation was as a Spares part manager, 35 yrs with Nissan, why would I suspect the info is incorrect. thanks for digging this up Darren. He did suggest the tell tales, which I will get in due course.
Can you recall if they were the flat style or the units with a tube body so they sit out a bit further from the rim? 19mm nut.
Scary that he has been there 35 years and was adamant that the service campaign / recall didnt happen. Disappointing. wonder what his position would be on the bubbling Dash fiasco....
Do you mean the telltales? They are a little plastic over cap that goes over the top of each nut. The telltale is the Nissan Logo embossed into the end. clip them over the nut and line the logos up so they are not big yellow jiggers. I didnt bother. I put grease on my studs an a torque wrench to 120nm and have never had a single nut loosen in 20 years.
