IceY60´s Patrols.

Here are few pictures of my patrols.

First the family patrol. It´s just stock with 33" tires.

And the big one. It´s modified with 5.42 diff ratios, 38" tires 15x12" rims. I have 15x15,5 rims that I´m going to sandblast and paint It has a VHF radio Fini Flash air compressor and a 20l air tank. It has 2" boddy lift and 2" suspension lift. the future plan is to modify the truck for bigger tires. I´m thinking about 44" or 46" tires.

Bloody awesome stuff. So what engines are you running over there? Any mods so they dont freeze?

I´m running the RD28T engines in them both they work quiet good. The big one is originaly with TD42 but I bought it with a 2.8 My friend had the 4.2 in his patrol. But he got tired of it and sold it and has an TB6 5.9 cummins 12valve now. And it works as hell with that engine. My plan is to find an TB6 engine and put in the big one and modify it for 44 or 46" tires. There are no midifycations for the frost. Patrol is build for cold weather hehe :D
Here is one picture from last summer. We still had a little snow in the mountains atleast over 800m below 800m there was no snow. Only nice and warm weather :p

Guessing front axil gets push forward to looking at that last pick? Or is all guard chops?

I´m not sure if I understand what you mean.

To fit the lager diameter wheels, have you cut the guards, or pushed the axle forward aswell to clear the wheel arch?

Yeah the guards has been cut, but for 46" I´ll have to move the front axle at least 5cm forward. And the rear axle back about 10cm. You also gain better weight distribution by moving the axles from each other. Which is better in snow driving. It also gives the rig a better handling.

Yep. They are custom made with fiber glass. There are a few companys here in Iceland that are making flares. And they wil for every type og car. These flares I´ve got are so called little 44" flares. Theyr work good with the 38" tires but the are not Wide enough for 44" tires. But that also depends on how wide the rim is. I´m using 12" wide rims now. But they aren´t enough So I have 15,5" wide rims that I´m going to sandblast and paint for the 38´s. My future plan is to modify rims for the 44" tires. But I can´t decide if I´m going to have them 18" or 20" wide.

Bloody crazy. The sizes you guys talk are insane. But totally normal for you guys.

As I can see, 3" lift in Island, it is not lift at all LOL yah?

I want to lift the trucks as litle as I can. My 33" patrol is lifted 1" and the guards has not been cut. I´m going to keep the 4" lift on big patrol for the 44" convertion but I´ll just cut more out instead. And if I wil ever try the 46" I´ll try to lift as litle as I can I´ll rather move the rear axle more back and front axle more forward :)

I wad thinking about the moving front axle forward and it'll be a big job.
I've seen people fit 10mm spacers and the drag link and steering dampener hit the axle.
So you may need to move the steering box forward to. Be interesting to see that's for sure. Will be watching.

As for the flares. I'm guessing the companies have a plug for the bigger ones?? Any chance of the companies name??

brettakantar.is and formverk.is I know about at least those companies I would recomend brettakantar.is He has been making flares for over 20 years og more. :)

thanks ICY here in Aus for a quick fix we use garden edging as i have on my truck.

not sure of rim off set but they only 10" wide with 15.5" wide tyres

God bless the Bunnings garden edging...lol

I have both widths of edging in the shed on rolls and it works a treat!

Thanks guys. I wil keep you posted when I´ll start the 44" covertion. I just got yhe rear differntial back from rebuild. It has been adjusted and the bearings are new also. So now I just have find the time to put it in. I´m working day and nightshift braking pots for Alcoa So the sparetime is somthing I don´t know what is any more. 12hour shift and taking alot of extra shifts. I was hoping that santa would give me 44" tires and 15X18-15" rims. But than I remembered that santa dit not exist. So I´ll guess I have buy them my self. That wil have to wait. I´m going to try one more winter with the 38´s but with wider rims. I have 15,5 wide rims that wil go to sandblast as soon as I have time :)

It's crazy how your rims are wider than diameter...
I ran into a local joint how do 5" wide fg flares. Got a pretty price tag..

A litle update. The rebuild rear diff is at it place in the rear axle. New oil sealings and new bolts for the rims. And the rear locker has been modyfied :) Here are some pics of the locker. We started around 8:00PM last night and went home to bed around 04:30 after to much beer.

Quick question do you upgrade the wheel studs to cater for the wider rims?
And Why All the lights in different directions on the roof.
There was a mob called Ziggybuilt who made huge flares years ago,
they were fitted to tojo 80s running 44" tyres street legal in Aust
he drove it from Brisbane to Melb 4x4 show

Re the lights...............So you can see either side of you if out and about in the dark mate, got magnetic ones on mine.

Thats the answer. Its good to have these lights in the dark. specally when you are driving in stormy snow wheater codition. Last winter I used the side lights to drive home work one stormy night. I could see the road sides but did not see front of me so I had no idea how far on my way home I was. These lights are just briliant :D Also when you are letting the air out of the tires in the dark the lights are very usefull. To day me and a friend of mine went a small trip in the mountains play in the snow. The condition was very hard and we had drive as slow as we could to keep the patrols floating on the snow. But it was fun as usual :p

My friend has 96 patrol. It has had a total rebuild and new paint. The engine is 6.5GM turbo diesel and 4L80 automatic tranny Mickey Thompson Baja claw 46/19,5-15 The rims are 18" wide with beadlock 2 extra fuel tanks and air tank. We call hes patrol Monster Inc :D

That GQ on 46's is awesome!
The tyres make the car look small. How much did he need to lift it to fit such large tyres?

great picture makes the stock GQ small.
so conditions very tuff to drive ?

There is an upgrade on the 46" if I remember correct. But there is no need for an upgrade for 38" and 44" But many here in Iceland have uppgrade for the 44" They are made here in Iceland by a mechanical workshop.. Some say that they are copying them from the dana 60 front axles. I´m not shure how much the monster inc is lifted. But i´ll guess it´s around 5-6" next time I meet him I´ll ask him ;)

Long time since I been here. I´m thinking about bigger engine now. Cummins is the dream engine. But I can´t find a truck to strip. I might have found an old 4,2 patrol for sale. But non turbo :( But the question is. Will it handle turbo with out braking down? And do I need to change the injectors also? The plan I have is to get an turbo, another injector pump and intercooler. The 4,2 patrol is 1989 model and I´ve been told that before 94 these engines have stronger head. It would be nice to get some advise on how to get a real power in those engines. I´m hoping to hear from the owner soon. I allready sold some parts from this truck If I buy it :)
