When I saw the title I was thinking this would be in April 2015 and would be a bit early for me.
I am all over August!!
August 2015 GUIV, Camper Trailer and family of 4 would be very keen! Will watch with interest.
That does sound like a plan mate!!!!
We've got 3 vehicles keen, maybe more

G`day Paul
Will keep dates in mind. Just a thought, a trip to both Thursday and Horne islands would be great as the 2nd WW is well documented on both islands. Horne Island has a great museum and tour as does Thursday island. Check out Vanessa Seekee web site www.intheirsteps.com or contact her via PO box10 Horne Island QLD 4875 as she is a historian devoted to the Torres Straight Islands, and having had a guided tour with her as a guide I would think she would have something special arranged for such an important event in Austraila`s history.
This is only a thought on my part.
Pearcey
I'm in mate :)
Hopefully they will both be finished by then, otherwise I can't imagine Kylie tagging along.

I recon I could possibly make this one. Paul, I hope your health will be good enough this time and can make it. I would also rather school holidays if suits. There may be a few from Sydney.
Steve
ps. no eyebrows on my patrol lol.
As this will involve most members as travellers or keen viewers would it be a good idea to make it a sticky?
Paul when you have time could you publish a list of spares, equipment and other things recommended to take?

Guide to some current Diesel Fuel Prices on the Cape (no idea what they will be in 2015 except they will be more expensive):
Cairns 155.9 cpl
Port Douglas 158.9 cpl
Cooktown 163.5 cpl
Coen 189.0 cpl
Archer River 220.0 cpl ****RIP OFF go to Coen****
Weipa 173.9 cpl
Bramwell Junction 210.2 cpl
Jardine River 245.0 cpl ****RIP OFF go to Siesa****
Siesa 222.0 cpl
Bamaga 235.o cpll ****RIP OFF go to Siesa****
Over 12,000k I averaged 16.15 litres p/100k towing a loaded Jayco Eagle off road van. Best was 13.53 p/100 and worst was 20.07 p/100. Fuel was the biggest expense.
I've also got prices from Vic inland to Sunshine Coast, some inland QLD, and east cost if anyone wants them.
I am very keen for this trip. Pick me up on your way through Townsville. Hopefully I will still be posted up here. Will bring along the family.
Adam
I am definitely interested in this idea, for now I will say I am in with bells on.

I'm keen, pending work.
I'd also suggest with a group of potentially a large size that we avoid the school holidays as there can be literally thousands of 4wd's up there and camping sites would be difficult to arrange. August is a good choice. If the majority want to bring the families and school kids, then August is still better than June/July, but will also be busy.
I'd also suggest we book or at least notify the good skipper at the Punsand Bay Resort nice and early, as it is way nicer to stay there and very convenient for an early start to make it up to the Tip for sun up.
Have to include the tele-track in this run wouldn't we?
If work will permit I'm dead keen!

No doubt as we get a bit closer there will have to be some sort of rough consensus on just how much of the Cape everyone wants to see. The Cape can literally take as long as you have got available and still have places to see. Taking campers can also limit options for some unless the camper is a real off roader.
Cooktown, Lakefield, Chilli Beach, Frenchmans Track, Weipa, Virylia Point, Seisia, Punsand Bay, Tip....perhaps? Including the swimming holes on the way of course, and pending time at least some of the OTT?
I'll be there unless I've fallen off the perch , interested to see the difference from 1983 till now
Looking @ NP99s figure I would work fuel costs out @ $2 a litre.
Would think for me 7 tank fulls @ $250 a fill = $1750 so round it up to $2000.
That's Melb to the Tip and back maybe even a side trip
.What are the alcohol Laws up there these days?
Alcohol restrictions vary depending on where the trip ends up going.
You can make it most of the way with no issues, but the Bamaga area is limited to 1 carton per vehicle I think. No grog can be taken into Lockhart, but Chilli Beach and the Frenchmans track are fine. Weipa is obviously fine, and so is Virylia Point. Tele track is also fine.
Fuel at Weipa in November was $1.68. Coen was $1.88. Avoid Archer River and the Jardine Crossing, particularly the Jardine crossing unless you have the ability to drain water from your filter.... Have had some shocking batches of fuel there on occasion.
