Did the ECU get wet?
I would recommend removing the starter motor and giving it a good clean out.

Having bought my vehicle with a leak I inherited a permanently musty smell. Only way to get it properly dry was to remove the seats, console etc, & take out all the carpet. Found the layer under the vinyl (it's a DX) was dripping wet & it took days, hanging up in the sun to dry, but once done all was good.
Was the bog hole worth it then? ;)
Nope, it appears the ECU is ok, I got about 2-3 inches of water in the cabin and the main thing is just wanting to get the carpet and floor lining dry.Quote:

I was waist deep in water in the cab when I done my impersonation of a submarine. Cost 6000 to fix as mud will do damage for weeks after the event. I removed all my seats hosed out everything for an hr till water ran clear then fans on doors open for a couple of days no smell of damp or dirt. So far its been new tps maff full service every fluid changed. Blown clutch and gearbox altinater starter motor new fan belt x2 first seized tentioner pully broke belt 2nd seized ac compressor 2nd belt change and then nee ac compressor and regassed. People just don't believe that sort of damage can occur. As you say, lesson learnt.
Yeh when my young bloke drowned mine we took the seats and all out, hung the mats out and I ran a fan heater for a week inside the car with the doors closed but one window slightly cracked, since then I have replaced the air con bearings, alternator and wheel bearings as well as changing all the fluids and the filters, the air filter was dripping wet as there was no snorkel then.

Yep take the seats out drew. About 30mins for all of them. Take out the carpet. I cut mine across the car under the center of the front seats to help get it in and out. It has been out many times!

I have had my GQ to Chest hieght inside the cab and above the roof outside and got pulled out backwards. Drove home and insurance wrote the car off. I bought it back and rebirthed it. Never again!

3 dirt bikers stopped to have a watch and a good laugh... that very bog hole claimed my mate in his D-Max so I knew better!!!
You need a drain plug in the floor. Hopefully you'll have warm weather later this week.

Yeah mate as above get it all out. On another note if you don't decide to strip it then do not use a heater in the car....lol....trust me! I did that once and the hot humidity just moulded up the entire inside. Cool air, windows down, doors open in your shed for a few days.

In the past when similar has happened to me I have found that hiring a carpet upholstery cleaner and giving it a good once over and then putting a dehumidifier in the wagon for a week works well
I drowned a car in T'ville on the way to work. Had 6" of water swimming around my feet.
Once home, I put a sprinkler under the car for a long while until the water went clear-ish
I then parked the car in the carport and stripped all the carpet, underlay, console etc out of the cabin. That's when I discovered a hole, about 50mm across without one of those body plug things. A lid from a WD40 can was glued in place with sikaflex and the floor was treated with anti-rust stuff.
As it was cyclone season, the carpet and underlay went into the family room on racks etc and I had fans going 24/7 for about a week.
Deodorise it after its dry with carpet cleaner etc and then put it all back.

I'm with Mudrunner in this one....no easy way out. Pull the seats and carpet....it will be the only way to prevent the nasty smells of rotting underlay.Quote:

I had an old Beemer that needed the carpet to come out as a leak had soaked the underlay. That was a c&$t of a job! Had to cut the carpet 'cause it was fixed to the firewall behind the heater core where I couldn't get to it.

Take the seats out, take off some trim pieces and it just lifts away!

Yeah not that hard. You never know someone may well have had it out in a previous life. If its one big piece than I recommend cutting it across the car under the front seats and then you can remove the front section and deal with it and then the centre section in one piece to.Quote:

Take the carpet out, dry things out and put seats back in, but not carpet. Also while the seats are out try and waterproof any other witing/fittings as well as you can
Just use loose mats you can remove when the going gets wet.
Not as if it is your daily driver...

Going to leave it tomorrow to dry out. Still to decide if I'm going to pull it all right out, there's some rain coming later this week and I don't really have an undercover area to leave it all open and I've still got to pull the drawers out to get to the last bit of the carpet.
Daz, my carpet was already in two pieces (front and rear sections) but going by how clean it WAS under there until I dunked it it hasn't been dunked before....I wonder if it was a change they made to later models (mines a '97).

Think Daz meant cutting it into 3 sections.... front seats, back seats and the boot.
Mines already in three sections because it has vinyl in the boot.......

Check your axle seals, I sunk mine and had to wait for bout 1/2 hour to get recovered and I have been replacing wheel bearings ever since.
Fortunately I would have only been in there about 2 minutes. We'd already hooked up a snatchy before I had a go at it. BA pulled me out pretty quickly.
