Stainless Steel Water Tank

G'day Trolers,

I am making a drinking water tank to fit in with my rear draw set up and I'm after ideas and advice on what kind of tap set up to put on it, weather a fixed tap or a tap on a hose is best.I will be putting an 80psi 4.6lpm pump on it.
Also what to do for a breather pipe thats not going to spill water out of it.
Has anyone got any pics that would help me.

Great idea mate!!! What about some form of nylex fitting so you can attach a tap or a hose ... of a tap on the end of a hose!! lol

Something that lets you have both options I figure ...

Not sure what type of tap, maybe a ball valve, would need hose after it though so it doesn't spray every where.

80psi wow. Be careful turning that on!

Maybe you could use a bit of hose to get breather up high enough so it doesn't leak out water.

Well I got some nylex hose fittings ( Thanks Bigrig ) and a bit of food grade water pipe plus a few other bits and pieces and I'm currently fiddling about with them to see what I can come up with.

I have however sorted the breather issue. I was poking around in mitre 10 and found some plastic pipe fittings and came up with whats in the pics. I found a whine bottle cork and put it in my drill press and with a sanding disk in the grinder kind of lathed up a float thingy that the water will push up and block the hole in the top of the breather.The slots in the sides allows air to enter the tank.

Rip'n'Shred -- Yep thinking I should have got the 35psi pump oh well Ill see how this one goes.

Love the ingenuity using an old wine cork mate!! Cheap and gives you reason to drink another bottle in case you need a replacement!!! lmao

As you hate the green tap anyway, rip n shred is right it might pay you to go to an irrigation suppliers and get a decent ball valve, I'm not sure how that style of tap would handle being under some decent pressure, they are more designed for gravity feed (jerry cans etc).

Also just another thought too and you may have already thought of it, make sure you have an isolation valve between the tank and the pump it would be a pain to lose all your water if the pump stuffs up, especially in the back of your troll.

But the tank has come up a treat.

Most of those pumps have adjustable pressure switches. The square lump on top of the pump (left side on the pics) there should be a little screw in the top. May be under a cap or sticker to stop adjusting. Counter clockwise should reduce the pressure on the internal spring which will lower the cut out pressure. Use a gauge of you ever want to take it back to 80psi as they will go much higher, but not last very long.

Little update.

I ended up not using plastic tube because I didn't trust the worm clamps to stay on with the pressure of the pump they kept blowing off while testing so I used stainless steel tubing instead.

Got the 1/4 turn taps from a plumbing store which are rated for mains house pressure and found some sexy bradded hose at mitre10 which adds some bling.
One tap is for the pump and one for gravity feed if anything goes wrong with the pump.

As Mark suggested I put a ball valve in the line and I am considering trying to turn the pressure down like Fity said see how it works out first.The fitting on the end is a garden jet fitting that is adjustable.
