The 'must have' tool for the garage tinkerer

I ordered these 3 months ago and they seem to have lapped the globe many times before making their way to me, 3 different con note nubers, delays beyond reason, but they finally arrived after 22 follow up emails.

They are simply a screw driven clamp to drop a nut or bolt into and then reach up inside the impssible location to save growing thoes 8" long spider fingers. They are in 3 sizes up to 300mm and whilst yet to try them in anger, am already looking forward to the need. You can also get a little magnetic dohickey that attaches to a spanner, like this:Attachment 88264
I usually just use a suitable size pot magnet screwed onto a bit of scrap with a bit whatever tape is close at hand - needs to be attached firmly because you need to be careful just where the magnet might stick. Not much use on stainless or brass though.

I can see how handy that little attachment would be also. I bought a slide on finger glove with a magnet tip but as you say its no good for stainless or non carbon nuts and bolts

great post! I'm actually getting myself some gear-less socket wrenches, sometimes I don't have enough space to make it go "click"

I have ball of blue tack in the lid of the tool box for such an an occasion, but you have to be careful not to loose the nut. Those tools and the magnet look way better.

I am yet to use the tools in anger, but they grip well and should assist in those times you need a 1ch thick arm to place a nut. Its probably one of those tool kits you use once every 5 yrs but saves hours of frustration. I have tried similar tricks like 5 minute araldite, blue tack, cloth tape, grease etc and with variations of success.

A 10mm socket!!
