Bullbar issues

Had a bingle a few weeks back with my 2011 gu common rail, picked up a gu patrol bar from 4x4 spares in kotara and it doesnt fit.
Being the ignorant bloke i am, i thought one size would fit all, turns out i bought a genuine nissan bull bar off a sedan model (which i didnt think would matter) and i didnt check the part number. So my question is, if i take the bull bar to get modified at a welder is that going to be an issue, regarding insurance incase of a future accident or can i get them to modifiy it and its going to be sweet?
