Hi guys i have on 07 3ltr. I have a dual battery setup in there with an redarc isolator. I have been reading alot about the dc dc chargers. Couple of questions
Are they hard to setup?
Do you still run the isolator as well?
And whats involved in the set up?

I don't have a dc-dc charger just the redarc isolator , but I'm sure the hardest part of installing them is finding a spot to put them .
I'm sure there is thread here if you search for it using the search bar up top right of screen .
Ill try it again mate. Just seemed to come up with all different threads but not much on the dc charger.

A guy at work put a Redarc unit in & loved it.
He mounted it in front of the radiator on some aluminium angle near the left side. I think the mounting points were for the second fan which is not fitted in the later models.

I had an isolator but now use a Ctek C250 in mine. I have a solar panel perma mounted on my roof rack so it just made sense to me. I have my unit mounted upside down under the passenger side of the dash. You dont need big heavy cables to run to the batteries like you do with the isolator. Which makes wiring easier. It works well, both batteries get charged well. And when the Patrol is in the sun, the batts still get charged.
The unit is bigger than I expected when I first bought it, but so is the Redarc BCDC1225, which is what I have in my camper.
One advantage that the isolator has is being able to connect both batteries together if needed for starting with the flick of a switch. This is the main reason I went with it instead of the Ctek. Mine is a Surepower isolator that came with the ARB duel battery system, not sure if the Redark does the same.

If you already have a redarc isolator installed why bother changing it? An expensive change for no gain really. Dcdc are good for long cable runs were voltage drop may be an issue. Eg in a camper trailer. Also work well with those fancy low voltage alternators. I run a redarc dbi212d, dual sense and a victron blue solar regulator. Solar chargers both batteries throughout the day and when driving alt chargers up nice and quick. If the battery is under the bonnet stick with the solenoid isolator. If its in the back I'd still stick with what you have, but like mudski you could run lighter cable to the rear and use a bcdc charger.
