Is this a safe new way to join two snatch straps together

Not sure about that idea,IMO still can't beat a rolled up magazine or thick stick.I reckon you would be always replacing it,once it get's muddy a few times it would become weak.Im not conviniced about the choking idea.
Would have to see it in action before i made up my mind.
not a bad idea ......but i still like my magazine
would like to see it used
I would not be keen on this idea in a snatch situation, there is no stretch in Kevlar or Dynema rope, certainly would not use it to connect a hook or shackle to a winch rope, the less metal in a snatch situation, the better. Stick with the rolled up magazine. My opinion only.
In fairness guys...
The dude in the Vid doesn't mention or show snatch straps to my recollection. He talks about replacing steel shackles with his "rope shackle" IE to he talks about hooks, tree trunk protectors and other shackles so static loads not kinetic. If he did mention snatching I missed it the couple of times I watched the vid.
I reckon it is a cracking idea for static loads and as soon as I figure out how he finished of the outer sheath at the knot end I'm going to try making one. I have the knot and eye method sorted but it looks like he did a tapered splice finished with a hot knife to lock the sheath.
I'm going to try a locked figure 9 or a variation of a Matthew Walker for the stopper.
I don't see any hass using it on a winch hook, lets face it the "eye" end of the hook is spliced to dyneema, amsteel, spectra or whatever you have on the winch the same way (eye splice)
Interesting idea, still nothing like a magazine lol
can someone explain the magazine? or better post a vid?
The magazine goes in the middle of the join to stop the straps tightening up on each other. When you're finished the recovery you remove the rolled up magazine and there will be enough slack in the join to be able to get the join undone. The same join with out the magazine will be nearly impossible to undo after a snatch recovery.
I can set up 2 straps for a photo tomorrow if you like.

Thanks ynot, I understand clearly as I have had to join two together once which is now only used when its needed as I cant get them undone. That trick would of been perfect
