Help please

Hi guys
Ive recently purchased a gq tb42s for a steal and as expected it has some gremlins manily,with cooling system,. Now the previous owner only ran it on gas and it was running shit house when I picked it up wouldn't rev past 3000 with out coughing and spluttering the viscous fan seized so never moved from off dead cold even after 75km drive home . So I've got it running well with a service and new fun hub but temp gauge will only move to a 1/4 max on hyw and goes down to cold around town. Now the problem is pressure , I can come out 12hrs later and go to open the radiator cap and it will burst and spay shit all over ya I've flushed to radiator and I'm putting a new thermostat in tomorrow but could anyone please give some advice on what else it could be

Sounds like it has no thermostat.
Pressure build up could be head/ head gasket, any bubbles in the radiator when it is running (some people remove the thermostat to hide head gasket fault).
Dont forget to get a new radiator cap.

That's all but bound to be a head gasket! Not the best of news, have it done as soon as you can. Check for water in the oil.

Sure sounds like head gasket.

Nit saying that it isn't a head related problem, start off with the easiest and cheapest first.

Check under the oil filler cap too for a milky residue........ if it's milky then it's definitely head gasket, costs you nothing to look too ;)

Yep. It's better to start by replacing radiator cap, then check the reserve tank & the rubber hoses inside/outside reserve tank are in the right place not broken etc. Then a combustion gas leak test on the radiator would be a good idea.

One of my fav Patrols I owned was a gassed TB42e.

If it doesn't get hot enough it will run like a dog on Gas but sounds like you have a few issues.

Rad - with the age of the Q's flushing doesn't usually do the job. Inspect the bottom of the rad core (the hard to get at bit) if it is rotten with Bugs and Mud get a replacement rad (factory is the best) if it is OK get the Rad rodded etc.

Thermostat - put a new one in.

Rad Cap - put a new one in

Fan - inspect for cracks at the blade hub, if cracked put a new one in

Viscous hub - put a new one in

Head - if the head is majorly screwed then it will usually blow the coolant over into the bottle unless the Cap is deliberately jammed so it cannot vent.
Get a compression test done and inspect for obvious signs and get it repaired if it's screwed.

A jammed Rad Cap and no Thermostat are normally signs of a deliberately hidden cracked head/head gasket when chemiweld hasn't worked but not always

The motor has no blown head gasket like oil under cap or any bubbles while running and it's not using any fluids other than what was getting spayed over me lol and as for radiator it's old but in ok nick wasn't clogged up with shit or rotten
I've replaced fan and hud it's shroud it in good condition
So today I replaced the radiator cap and the thermostat and yep use guys where right it had the guts taken out it out got it all bk together filled it up with new coolant bleed the air out and let it just run for 10 min and for once it actually idle fine with no misses turned it off waited an hour or two and took the cap off and NO pressure coolant was at correct level
Took it for a drive and it run the best it ever has since I've had it and the temp gauge was about 1/3 bit over drove for about 30ks up pretty hilly roads and it didn't really move got home waited for it to cool Down and popped the cap off again and still no pressure no oil no bubble and good coolant so fingers crossed guys lol
