would really depends on funds available.
Were you happy with the performance of that motor??
three dogs ive never had any issues with the 2.8 motor yes its sluggish and can struggle with the camper going up hills but you just drive within the capabilities of what you have having said that the engine is modified and most people ive been 4wding with that didnt know the car couldnt believe it was a 2.8 till the bonnet went up but i drove a mates 4.2 and another mates who has done the ls1 converstion and have to say the power of the ls1 impressed me but im old fashioned and cant shake the notion that 4wds should be diesels my young bloke is just finishing off his Ls1 converstion and keeps telling me thats the way to go just so confused guess i will do the ring around Monday get some prices and see where i stand from there
chuck a 6.6 duramax in :)
You could also get your crank repaired. It looks as though it's only the balancer section that's stuffed which is lucky cos if the timing gear section had let go it could have been messy.
Cheapest option will be repair/replace crank. As you will have it apart I would chuck some new bearings in at least.
Looking from this angle looks like a new crank
what side of town ore you on,?
depending on what you want to do if you want to do a lap I would suggest diesel.
If you only use it for weekends away and shorter trips under 1000 K then the ls1 may suit you better
I'm sort of going through the same dilemma even though there is nothing wrong with my motor ATM.
I also want to convert mine into a dual cab but thats another story.
TD 4.2 would be nice as the value will go up I think or at least hold a decent price
A TD42 coversion from RD28 will also include a gearbox and transfer case as well. Yours is one of a number of RD28s that have the same damage. I have had a look for threads with info on successful repairs, but came up with nothing. I think someone had their stripped keyway welded.
