Hi-Lift jack mounting

Hey all,

Just wondering with the people running Hi-Lift jacks, where abouts have you mounted them?

I've bought myself a simple and cheap rear tyre mount, HOWEVER!!!!! On my spare mount (fiberglass)? they have this lovely little center hump, which does not allow me to fit it flush........

Now, being fiberglass, if I cut this, will it weaken the living crap out of it? or should i search for more fitting options!!!!

just wanted to get some ideas and pics of what other people have done!!!

Absolutely! full ARB roof cage, was wanting to put it elsewhere if possible, roof cage is the last resort.

Fibreglass spare mount. Interesting. I always thought they were steel.

As for strength, insure. Some have the lip so when your lifting the tyre on and off your not supporting it while stuffing around with the nuts.

The gq has studs but for some reason the gu's the Stud is what's removed.

Anyway, I'd say you could cut it. But I wouldn't fully remove it. Leave just enough to clear the mount but still a lip to support the spare

can you drill/holesaw out the centre of the jack mount to gain clearance?

Why is your roof-rack a last resort?

Weight considerations I am guessing?

I've looked all over my truck for an alternative, but have gone back to the roof rack.

Best place to mount a Hi-lift is on the wall of your shed.

2nd best place is strapped across the Bullbar (on a farm hack)

Unless you have suitable jacking points front and rear or a wheel buddy they are a PIA.
I carried one for a while with a 'wheel buddy' but even gave that idea away in the end

Whenever I did have it onboard it was stowed in a Hi-lift mount on the side of the roof rack.

I had a spare wheel mount adapter but that is a crap spot IMHO as the last thing you need on the large barn door of a Patrol is another 25 Kg or so of weight

I did see a pic of a well modded gu and the hi lift and shovel were mounted along the sides of the bonnet...

I also like the high lift mounted under windscreen like you see on the Jeeps.
Imo doesn't block to much view but everyones views are different

Are you sure the along the brush rails / bonnet job wasn't on a troopy? I saw a pic of that, though it was cool, and then saw it didn't work for patrol.

It was on the bonnet, like a foot in from the edge, no scrub bars..
Yea was a gu, it had like a 6" lift and 35's. So you'd need a ladder to access anything on the side of the roof rack.
