Has anyone had any experience cleaning the gunk out of the turbo and intercooler on a 3.0l crd. Any suggestions on how to do it and what product to use? I'm not experienced with crd's so any tips on things that may trip me up would be very much appreciated.

Mine never got dirty enough to warrant it really. I did it once at about 100,000 K's just on spec but only noticed a reasonably light film of oil and goo in the plenums.
I washed mine by removing the Intercooler and using about 500ml of degreaser and sloshing it around for a few minutes, tipped out the degreaser, rinsed with water then a final rinse of about 500ml of metho.
The cynic in me says that the ZD30 factory intercooler will need to be replaced due to leaks before it gets clogged up with goo.
I can see a little oil leaking through underneath at the windscreen end but nothing visible on top of the intercooler. I'll probably give what you suggest a try for the hell of it seeing as I already have degreaser and metho on hand and will be ripping it off to get at the intake manifold anyway. Cheers for the tip.
you could also pressurize it with a bike pump to add a little pressure and taping up the ends.
Just dunk it in a tub of water, make sure you dry throughly before reinstalling,
that will tell you if you have a leak

Looking at having a crack at doing this on a 2014 y61 this weekend, just wondering what experiences have been had whilst attempting to do this by others?
Unless you have holes in the IC and your getting it repaired theres no point in removing the IC and cleaning it out. It will just be oily again after a few thousand k’s.Quote:

Ended up taking it off and using a bit of kerosene to rinse it out. Didn't seem to be to bad for 120K KM. So maybe my catch can is doing the trick. Took it apart as well and cleaned it. The reason I was keen to have a look was there was considerable leakage around the piping on the drivers side. Been trying to find a good breakdown of the system to better understand input / output sides...
