Hello fellow forumites,
Almost finished snorkel install on my GU, but the top bracket that is just under the air ram requires 3 holes to be drilled into the pillar then pop rivetted in.
Wondering if you guys did this and how you went? I'm cautious about drilling holes into a panel which has the possibility to leak water into the cabin, I was thinking of possibly sikaflexing the bracket to the pillar instead?
What do you guys think/have done...

I marked the hole position with the braket on the snorkel then drilled, painted and put big pop riverts in. Just gota be careful drilling the holes, not to go all the way through the other side.
I don't think silicon would have the stretch to hold it on, plus it could damage the paint and look worse
Sikaflex industrial adhesive will do the job, no sweat.
Used to glue side panels to buses etc.
Comes in black too, so will match the bracket and fill the holes.

hey buddy, I had a 4" stainless steel steel mounted to the pillar on my GQ and I am not sure what they are called, but the bloke used these threaded inserts with a bunch of sikaflex or black silicone sealant inside before the threaded insert, all high quality stainless steel inserts and bolts.... that was 2 years ago, still no rust and I live near the beach with salt air everywhere.

@ Gq jack the tool is called a Rivnut tool and works similar to a pop rivet as you drill a hole and pop the rivnut in the hole.
Great tool not very expensive, I just had a TJM snorkel fitted but their fitting kit comes with nylon inserts for the pillar.
A handy tip when using a RIVNUT tool is to slightly squash the rivnut then insert. make sure you set the stop plunger
or you'll strip the rivnut out
Put masking tape on first then mark the tape. This way your drill wont dance all over the pillar

I been wondering what they were called. They would come in handy a lot while building up our 4by.
Some hear call them nutserts but as my mates use this tool in the aviation industry I'll stick with rivnut.
M6 aluminium rivnuts are easy to squish, and a good all round size to use , you can get 100 for $10,
enough for many jobs. I just used some in a flat piece of steel to mount my fire extinghisher, very neat IMO
