Used that idea back in the late 60ties when I rallied a Mini and rallies were run on a lot of boggy tracks, not like today's made tracks and bitumen roads. Worked OK if you could find an anchor close handy
Looks interesting but not cheap, almost a grand.
Would buy an electric winch for that price.
True, it's not cheap. I was blown away by the simplicity of it and how reliable it would be, as long as your wheels can spin the winch will work.
Let's face it, if your wheels don't spin you've got a lot more to worry about than your winch working.
I think the military used these on their trucks many many decades ago

Less working parts to break down, but would be a bugger to fit in tight, deep ruts. Can be taken out of the vehicle when not needed.
last resort, similar to capstan or windlass ,
would rather use my hi lift as a come-along.
We used to have a home made verson years ago on a farm that I worked on. From memory it worked well but you did have to engage the diff lock
