Is there any way of adjusting the amount of freeplay of the steering wheel. Mine seems a little excessive. Al joints seem fine, and no damage just plenty of steering wheel movement.

Get someone in the car to turn the wheel from side to side while your under the car. See if you can fine a tie rod end that is a little worn or then look a your steering box for the next???
Thanks mudrunner. Makes a good start. Hopefully it will turn up something. Can the play be adjusted in the steering box?
I've adjusted the play in my GU steering box, just mark where it was and do it up half a turn and see if it's any better. (That is assuming you don't find play in a tie rod end or similar)
Bear, where is the adjustment. Havnt done it before but not afraid of the tools!
On the top of the steering box you'll find an adjustment screw (flat blade) with a lock nut.
I found it easier to do it with 2 people.
Get your assistant to hold the screw while you undo the lock nut. Get them to tighten half a turn maybe and then lock up the lock nut again.
See if that is enough, if not go again.
Thanks mate, I know the one. Just in time for the weekend.
