Speedo Correction using Jaycar Speedo Kit, GU 07 TB48 Auto

Time to fix the speedo error. I am out by about 9%. So when driving at 100kmh my speedo reads 109kmh.

So I built the kit from Jaycar.
I broke into the speedo sensor wires, sky blue and grey in the loom on the drivers kickpanel before the M21/E127 connector. I used a D9 breakout thingo from futurlec.com and D9 connector to the speedo corrector. Added ignition +12volts and ground to the D9 as well.

Wiring....
1. Sensor from gearbox (input to speedo corrector), blue to ground and grey to input. This doesn't really matter which way you connect the input.

2. Output side (input to instrument), grey is connected to the output of corrector and the blue is not connected to anything.

3. I am using LK2 and LK5

I found that this worked fine.

I left the settings of the unit all in default.

The only down side is the ODO reads low by 9%. So I will need to correct for fuel calcs and servicing.

Why did you use the d9 breakout kit? In the instructions I got with the jay car kit it doesn't mention a breakout kit but it only intercepts 1 wire for speedo and you have broken into 2. Can you do it without the breakout kit and which wire do you use?

I wasn't sure which wire was the signal and which was the signal ground. I used the d9 as it made it easier to connect and disconnect if I ever have a fault. If you follow my wiring it should work okay......

I don't have a d9 breakout so will try without it and see if I can make it go. Cheers

As always it was second time lucky so it's the grey wire. Link 2 and 5. That's in a 99 GU TI 4.5. Cheers for your post and help. That's the first circuit board I've ever made so I'm pleased to see it work.

Another simpler option would be to change the gear on the sped sensor on the gear/tran box.

The good thing with the jaycar kit is you can easily adjust for different tyres. I'm glad you found the post useful. It took me the better part of a day to find all the wires etc etc, so i am glad it helped:)

Do you need to use the blue or can you use any ground?

If you are talking about the wires from the transmission sensor then you will need to use the two wires (blue and grey). I can not recall exactly but I would have used the vehicle ground to for the speedo correction unit ground.

Sorry for the slight hijack, but is there something similar available for just the Odometer? My speedo is pretty bang on with 285/70/17 tyres, but the ODO is out by close to 9%. Made my fuel economy figures scary, until I realised I was actually traveling around 9% further than the ODO was telling me.
