My absolutely hilarious weekend fishing trip
On the spare of the moment on the weekend, I decided to take the mojomobile out for a spin on goolwa beach here in south australia, we packed a bit of food, the rods, bait and the stuff to keep warm ( beer and port :P )
now for those who dont know the mojomobile is a stock as a rock GQ with SUV tires , and very saggy old suspension ( lift is coming ). my mate was following me in his mav and he is the same as me the suspension is getting tired, but he runs a set of duelers. When we go to the Murray Mouth we found that there were quite a few people there. when we set up a younger tojo owner started giving us a bit of curry about our stock pootrols, as he called them, he kept on and on about all of his TJM and ARB mods. he left early in the arvo ( 3pm ish ) in his very nice looking 100 series, with all the bells and whistles that we had heard about for the last 4 hours. we were glad to see him gone.
we continued to fish till about 6pm and the weather turn to shit so decided to head off, to get somewhere dry and warm. about 1/2 way down the beach back the to off ramp guess who we came across frantically waving his arms in the dark . yup you guessed it the guy who gave us curry all day. His 100 series would have had close to $15k worth of after market shit on it and there it was nearly getting eaten by the tide, 2 other vehicles where there and they could not get his 100 series out she was in deep with water swirling around the tires.
he had been trying to get it out for about 2 1/2 hours and had only made it worse.
I asked what pressure his tires were at, I got a blank look and laughed, I dropped his tires ( a nice set of mickey claws ) to 15 psi since they where at 38 psi LOL, hooked up his snatch to the back of the mojomobile and guess what ? he was out in a flash..
my final words to him on the beach were, " next time I suggest you respect your elders, since the pootrol may be your only savior, as no amount of mods will save you if you cant drive, see you at the pub"
about 25mins later we were at the pub enjoying a nice cold beer and in walked this tojo driver and his missus, we got talking all the make slander aside and found out that he only had the vehicle for 2 weeks, and had modded the crap out of it. we ended up having dinner with them and had a nice long chat as to why you drop tire pressures LOL, but in doing so also found out that he was not only embarrassed to have been pulled out by a stock Patrol with SUV roadies, but he was glad as apparently his young missus was tearing him a new one for the 2 1/2 hours before we got there, and all the way to the pub. ( i suspect he copped it after as well ).
what amazed me the most was why no one told him to drop his tire pressures there were 2 other vehicles there trying to dig him out they had maxtraks, more bits of kit laying all over the sand than you could find at the 4x4 show, but he had 38 psi in his tires, we also heard no banter on the UHF about anyone being badly bogged ( i leave mine on scan and on all the time ).
A good rig and kit is one thing but if you dont know how to use it there is no point having it. as you wont have it for very long
We now have made a new contact, even though he drives a Tojo..
