broken exhaust mount on GQ / feedback on extractors

Hi, this is my first post since joining up - hopefully I'm in the right place and not repeating anyone:

I've just checked the diff/ gearbox oil levels etc under the truck and noticed that the exhaust bracket that runs from the gearbox mount area is broken .

The bracket was sitting on top of the bash plate and was not connected to the exhaust - I believe it was not connected back up to the exhaust when I had the clutch changed about 3 years ago ! . - It may have just failed through fatigue and vibration - but it's a fairly heavy duty bracket .

Anyone seen this before or has a spare one knocking around ?

Also , I've a set of headers/extractors in the shed that i never fitted - As i look to be up for some exhaust work may be I'll fit them - any feedback on performance/economy ? motor is 4.2 TD non turbo , 320,000 kms

I can comment on the extractors for a TB42. I noticed a very small increase in power, probably not worth the time it would take to fit them. However, noticed a big increase in economy, definitely worth doing. I am now getting an extra ~60kms per tank of LPG.

They always break whether on deisels or petrols, from normal engine and transmission vibrations because it's mounted solid to the pipe without any insulation from vibrations.
I put a flexible strap join onto the bracket on mine years ago. Haven't had an issue since.

Hey Malcolm, mate I have a set of headers on my td42, along with a 2.5 mandrel exhaust. It has made a slight differance in power, more noticebly in fuel economy. the best thing about it is the sound though, compaired to how it was stock it sounds great.

Thanks Stu' - worth doing for the economy alone . Also it looks like you can get a 2.5 exhaust cheaper than the standard item - about $500 on ebay compared to $800 locally for standard item . Cheers and have a good evening,
