2004 PROTOCOL used
Hi all having an 04 Patrol puts this model at the cross roads of OBD2 ,OBD11 protocol diagnostics.
I've sent off a few emails to different companies selling diagnostic products like Scangauge etc.
Question is does anyone know if the 2004 uses any of the following protocols
ISO 14230-4 [canbus]
ISO 14230-4 kwp2000
ISO 9141-2
J 1850 vpw
J 1850 pwm
Any help would be great

Does OBD11 - OBDII which is the same as OBD2 or did you mean OBD1? *L*

Have you looked for the plug John???
Have also moved this thread to the On board diagnostics section

Yeah typo, but one mob I emailed gave me those "protocols"
Now just need to figure out which suits the 2004 model.
even though I have the OBD2 port under the steering doesn't mean its OBD2 protocols
I believe mine has 14 wires

John I reckon you would be best of to send Chaz a PM and see if he replies ( hasn't been on here for a while ), he has played around with the 3 liters interface even though his is a different year model to yours
Have a read of his write up: http://www.chaz.yellowfoot.org/Consult%20Interface.htm
Sorry cant give you much more than that at the moment

Here are the current 5 protocols used in OBD:
1. SAE J1850-VPWM: Widely used on GM cars.
2. SAE J1850-PWM: Widely used on Ford cars.
3. ISO 14230/KWP 2000.
4. ISO 9141-2: Widely used by Europian and Japanese/Asian car makers.
5. ISO 15765-4/CAN: This is the current standard for cars made/sold in North America bejginning in 2008. Beginning in 1/1/2006, cars made/sold in AU/NZ must be OBD II compliant.
Nissan Motors have always used the ISO protocols. So for your 2004 Patrol, I would say its either ISO9141 (as in my 02 Altima) or ISO14230. Or it may be CAN compliant and your scan tool is not. When buying a Scanner, look for these phrases: support all 5 protocols or CAN compliant. hope this helps.
