I also think it is the MAF Sensor itself ... they are fairly fragile, and don't like being disturbed too much.

There are certain voltages it should be outputting. See this thread for voltages ...

Won't be anything to do with glow plugs but possibly the MAF sensor , was it like that before you cleaned the sensor?
And what did you clean it with ?
