If it is already converted and the owner has had it for a while, I would think the majority of niggly issues associated with the conversion would be sorted by now. I have a GQ manual so cant comment...

Starter motor. Had same symptoms on my BD30 Cabstar. Also did what you did and replaced the battery. I had only changed the starter brushes and cleaned up the commmutator about 12 months previously,...

Check the main earths for the ECU. Make sure both are connected and the connections are clean and tight.
They should be connected to the front of the head on the drivers side.
