3db, 6db etc refers to the aerials gain, which basically means it's transmit/recieve pattern. See the image below, it explains it a lot better than I can.

The old and still used sets have 40 useable channels(frequencies) it's going to 80 channels. You will know how these work later. But all you will need to know is how to turn it on, set to channel,...
