TC is Torque Converter.
On auto Patrols, if you put a switch in the wiring to the lock up solenoid it locks the Torque Converter so there is now no slip between engine and gearbox.
He may mean better engine braking, but better rotors and pads
do help heaps as I've just changed to dimple drilled and slotted all around

There were a couple of the early CRD's which had the bolts incorrectly torqued to the oil pump, and the bolts eventually fell out, and caused substantial damage.

Is yours a common rail? There was a few cases where the oil pump bolts weren't torqued correctly and worked loose in the early common rail engines.
With a 160,000Ks on the clock I doubt if this...
