Since making this thread, I have learned that the factory alternator has an "overrunning pulley" which is a one way clutch to allow the alternator to briefly continue spinning under it's own inertia...

Crack the valve, push the brake, close the valve, release the break.
You can also vacuum bleed with a spray bottle nozzle

starter + aux under bonnet (both lead-calcium)
