I was thinking the other day i live 15 mins from the Neerim east area which im sure a few members would vist from time to time. What i was thinking is there a way we could have members who would be willing to help with recoveries post their Ph numbers and areas they are near,so if anyone has a major drama, such as a breakdown or worse accident and just need help they can ring and help won't be far away. But it would need to be set up so ONLY MEMBERS CAN SEE IT.
Not sure if this is able to be done or not, maybe AB or a mod could answer this, what are peoples thought's on this?

Hi mate, I moved your thread into its own.
I think its a top idea, I believe it could be set up so only members could view it. But would be something AB would have to set up.
Over 2 you members, whats you view on this topic?

I think it's a great idea, I probably wouldn't use it though as I feel bad asking strangers for favours, but I'd be willing to help others if they were in this area.
Maybe we should issue pagers like the CFA!

Well, just to improve on the idea. As Todd knows where everyone is because of his map mastership, we could just send our numbers to Todd and Todd could just post his number on the forum. So if you need help, you just ring Todd and he will organise help for you. This way you just carry one number on your phone..:) BWahahahaha
So I'm in , anyone else...LOLOLOLOLOLOLO
How about it Todd, you in? LMAO
:cheers::cheers::cheers:
on a serious note, I'm keen!!!

Thanks Todd.
I like you're thinking NissPat LOL.
I was thinking along the line's of something like for example:i live in warragul so im 15 mins from Neerim east and sweetwater areas,25-30 mins from Noojee,About 2 hrs from Mt matlock and about 1 hr from aberfeldy. So anyone in those areas could call me and if i was available i would come and help. You would just to write down the number for the person in the area your going to before you leave.

Great idea - not sure of how to manage etc, but like the concept. I'm pretty sure most of the members up here know they can call on a few others (as we've shared numbers already) in times of need, so think this would be a bottler - sort of a 'roadside assistance' concept between mates on the forum.

just thinking, on the members map, the members available to help be written in a different colour. hover over with mouse and see the phone number / availability?

I like your idea of helping other members and all for it Chester, but....I do not think that it would be a good idea to have members phone numbers on the forum for the world to see, just leaves it wide open for a lot of trouble mate.

I could create a forum that can only be accessed by members over X posts or forum sponsors, etc and inside that forum has separated forums for each state with your area and contact details.
Or as above but a private members map set up?
That way no one else can access it...

Well if we attended meet ups in our ara wecould have a newcircle of frinds, and then we would have Ph Nos for all our new friends who we know we could count on. I for one feel comfortable with the belief that if I put the call out to Ynot, Big Rig or Dhuck, that someone would see that help arrived.

I think it's a great idea, had a mate contact me via PM, he had ripped the sump off up near Paynes find.
I ended up driving up there with another sump, we did quite a bit of shoot'n later as well as drink'n ( not while shoot'n)
Cheers, the ferret.

Was thinking today could people who are interested in doing this pm AB or a nominated Mod their details and they could set up a list and then they could send it in a PM to members over say fifty posts.
Probably a lot a work but it was a thought.

You guys are reducing my life each and every day...LMAO
yeah ok, so whats the plan....I can make a separate forum so only "Forum Sponsors" can get into which will have the contacts or do you just want an email subscription with numbers that will be regularly updated or whats the GO.
I'm sure we don't want our numbers posted up all over the net so we get phone calls at 2am from strangers. It has to be an exclusive form for forum members only.

No..... we are giving you more experience in running a forum.
I would go the separate forum so only "Forum Sponsors" could access it....but then again I think the manuals should be in a "Forum Sponsors" only section *L*

I like the idea.. but how do you police it? I mean, what's to stop someone going out every weekend and getting stuck and asking for help, knowing they'll probably get it? I'm not saying people here would use others.. but like, what if you get some shifty people handing out numbers to friends, and then they are using it as a life line?
I know, I'm the pesimist of the house, lol.. but you gotta take everything into consideration.

yeah I must admit, I'm all for helping and like the idea but would be pretty uneasy about having my number out there

Well I guess you'd only offer if you were comfortable with the whole idea. It's really only going to be for blokes who live in the bush, or quite close. I'm a good hour away from the closest tracks from my house and then you have to get to the track itself where the recovery is to be made. Going to be a lot of time out of my day to help someone out and I can't see myself doing it. I'd certainly help if I was already there mind you.. but couldn't take out a few hours from a day especially since the time I have now is limited anyway.
I think this idea is great for the guys who live close to the tracks though! You should have a local meet up, chuck on a BBQ and discuss it! Great excuse for some wheeling!

It is a good idea, i am on a national law enforcement forum as well and we have a similar section set up. It is password protected so that only financial and current registered members can see it, if they are not financial, they lose access to the forum etc and it works really well.
I am only 15 mins from wilbinga dunes in perth and am happy to help out if i am free and not committed to work etc.

As already mentioned, you may need to appoint 1 or 2 members to minitor the contact section to help out in keeping it above board, all members should take into account that they should be covered by their own insurance and that the forum and associated members are not to be held liable for assisting in any recoveries
AB
17th April 2012, 07:06 PM
For sure mate, no one can see that section apart from forum sponsors and I am the only one who can add someone to the map as well so it will be highly monitored indeed.
Good point about the insurances, etc... I'll add that to it.
