EGR Question

Hi guys , whats the deal with blocking the egr valve on the 2.8 td is it a good thing or what does it do or prevent ??? thanks

Blocking the EGR prevents carbon build up inside the inlet manifold, it will cause your turbo to spool 3 to 400 revs quicker and that's a good thing, more power.
A catch can is another good thing as it helps to keep the MAF sensor clean.
The 2.8 is a very simple instal.

No prob, a catch can is a receptacle, and with the use of some hoses, fits inline of the hose that comes from the PCV and to the inlet manifold.
The idea of the can is to trap the oil from the vapour going into the inlet.
This oily vapour plays havoc with the Maf and causes the maf to send the wrong messages to the injector pump etc.
The oily vapour and the carbon from the EGR makes a thick sticky goo that lines the inside of the inlet manifold and restricts the flow of clean air to the cylinders

2nd what the ferret said ive just completed a 12000k trip and when i went to change filter 5000k into trip found the air cleaner was still clean changed it when i got back when i did a service and filter is still clean enough to use for when im off road wil post pic when i get home

this is the filter removed after 12000 ks this is the dirty side before doing the egr block and catch can the filters were useless after 5000ks and needed throwing out

Catch cans are the go mate, and they're defiantly not just a diesel thing. Anything you can do to stop that soot getting back into you engine is the bees. But just remember, any modification to your pollution device is very illegal and can possibly result in a $30,000 fine. Yeah, that's right 30 gs! So just don't get caught, although usually the boys in blue know nothing of this and usually just smack you with a defect. If they even know what theyre looking at. Its in the same category as removing the cat from your vehicle
