Thought id start a new thread with my new purchase. 92 gq(dont know what model) diesel, manual. Does have 31" all terrains at the moment but will be swapping them with the 31" muddies of my cruiser and once its sold then they will be replaced by new 33" wheels and black terra rims.
Already has a 2inch lift but as soon as i can find a place who does finance for lifts i'll be gettin a 4inch with the go ahead from the mrs. There wont be much happening with it until my cruiser sells though but 1st things on the list are, wheels, snorkel, and some bar work, roof cage and locker. Depending on how much i have left over will determine what else.
I'm aiming for a tough tourer.

Nice mate. white with black rims ais a good combo, and good to see you have your priorities right with the mod list.
I think a rear bar and a a locker should be the first 2 things to do..

Thanks for the replies everyone. Just hanging to get rid of the cruiser so i can modify it. It wont be staying white. Body has a few dents so when there fixed ill respray it.
I got some 50mmx150mm rhs so will try make a rear bar out of that.

This is my advice mate, steer clear of the return to centre steering dampner they only put more pressure on your other steering components, you have been quoted with castor bushes so no drop boxes needed. You really want to use standard nissan rubber bushes and drop boxes instead of the castor bushes though. Also get rid of all those poly bushes they want you to buy. There really is no replacement for genuine rubber bushes in all cases. I doubt you need all those bushes to be replaced either. Transmission spacer is not required either. Personally I'd stay away from the shop that is trying to flog all that gear off to you. Also superior engineering gear is excellent stuff but a little pricey.

I would go Superior Engineering over Opposite Lock, which ever one you chose, go drop boxes over castor correction for a 4" lift
Darren, I think I have said this 2 you already, but please Ring the RTA Technical first and see what you legally need to do to have this mod. I believe you still only need and engineers certificate.

Some larger tyres and front locker will get me most places i need to go. The 60 is sold and will get half the money this week and the rest in a fortnite so the mods will soon start. Can get a spartan autolocker from locktup 4x4 for $485 but seen them on ebay for much less but will this fit? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Spartan-Locker-Nissan-Patrol-Uses-31-Spline-Axles-X-P-SL-NPATROL-31-/390404351921?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ae5e9a7b1#ht_2000wt_1397
Tyres will be first. I can get a set of 35's for my patrol for a similar price as new 33's. is it worth getting the larger tyres with a near standard car and not much lift?

Alright my cruiser is sold and will have the money over the next fortnight. Now id like some help on what to spend it on. I'll have roughly $2650 to spend.
1st on the list is a set of 4 33 bighorns for $1040.
diff lock is $400
spotties $220(roo lites)
dual batteries price unknown
2 types of roof cages.

http://tigerz11.com.au/products/CLAMP-ON-ROOF-RACK-ALUMINIUM.html
whats better?
need a new hub seal kit(think thats right the inside of the drivers wheel is leaking)
autocam is $350
brush bars and sliders $200.
What are your thoughts? i'm just trying to get a list of what i should get and then work out what to buy from there.
Silver
26th April 2012, 12:09 AM
I think my list would look like this.
seal kit first, if taking the beast off road. sorry if you know all this, but here goes.....What is usually going on is that the seal that keeps oil in the diff, and grease in the trunnion/cv space of the housing fails, letting the diff oil level drop, and also dilute the grease. This is if it is leaking onto the back, ie diff side of things. It if it leaking out of the hub/free wheeling hub, it could be the problem above, or if grease consistency is what is leaking, could just be that the hub is leaking. If you are tempted to do the seals, then you might as well think about clean and repack the cv, check/replace king pin bearings also known as trunnion bearings....then take a peak at the wheel bearings, and since it is all apart, how do those brake rotors look? The pads? oh, yeah, might as well service the caliper sliders if they need it :-) There are threads about most of this on here
Do you need to roof rack to get away? If so, that might be next, on my list anyway - we take too much stuff :-).
Then tyres - unless present tyres are hopeless for what you want - then maybe move it up above the roof rack. No point having a roof rack if you can't get to where you want to be, or you can get there ok, but then can't play. It may be that a bit of discipline will show that the rack is unnecessary. Hasn't for me, but hey :-)
After that, I guess it would depend where you like to play :-)
BLKWDW
26th April 2012, 08:36 AM
Yeh its leaking on the diff side out the hub. i read a recent post bout it and am going to buy the kit you posted up although i might opt for the one with new wheel bearings as well for $200.
In regards to the roof rack i will hav 4kids plua the wife and me so space inside the cab is limited. If you can use a gu third row seats and only have the one fitted i could get away without one but no one has done it so dont know if it will work. I just need the space for tools, recovery gear and fridge on the day trips as i gave the trailer now for extended trips. I would luv to get away without as it will leave more money to spend elsewhere .
With the tyres i have 31inch buckshots which do well but id like to use ghe extra size of a 33inch tyre to my advantage add a locker to that and ill go most places the bigger trucks in the club go as i do luv the harder stuff.
BLKWDW
9th May 2012, 07:51 PM
Alright picked up my 33s today. Got a set of 5 for $800 on rims. Spare is brand new with a tread depth of 16.5mm and the rest are at 15mm so i'm not complaining with that buy. I sold my rims for $500 so reall they only cost me $300. Also bought all the pipe to build my sliders and brush bars which will happen at the end of the month as my mate who is doing it is quite busy.
On the other hand i have bad news for the old girl. Once the tyres were of and having a good look under the old girl we have found the front springs are or a different car and are to small which would explain why the back is so high compared to the front. The rear springs seem to alright though so i dont know what the go is there. Also the rear main seal is leaking so time for the gearbox to come out and replace it as well as the spigot bearing and thrust bearing. If the clutch is alright it will be staying.
Hub seal kit and lokka have been ordered so once they both arrive i'll install them both at the same time.
BLKWDW
10th May 2012, 06:53 PM
Alright after further investigating with my brothers car side by side turns out the springs are correct and are 2inch. turns out the problem is the back springs. I think they are 3inch instead of 2 as there 40mm higher then my brothers 2inch springs in the back of his car. Now the problem is i was gona just throw in some 3omm coil spacers to get the extra height but what other issues am i gona run into? I dont want to upgrade the springs unless i can get some real cheap because i plan on doing a 4inch lift come tax time.
Anyways heres some pic with the new 33s.

Alright. had a minor hiccup today whilst trying to remove the gearbox today. Was under the car with my brother he was undoing the front tailshaft and i was undoing the rear. As soon as i knocked the last bolt out of the back of the tailshaft the 2 block of wood used to chock the car failed resulting in the car taking of. My brother was lucky enough to get out before being hurt by i wasnt so lucky. The rear tyre just missed my face cutting it open then preceeded to roll straight over my left shoulder and arm and down my torso luckily i got my legs out of the way. It rolled down the yard with the trampoline stopping it from going through the house. A trip to the hospital for xrays and i dont know how but i didnt break nothing just some excrutiating pain. Nothing some morphene didnt fix. Home now but cant do much just gota keep an eyer on things and hope it hasnt done nothing to my lungs as ive had it collapse 5 times before. Anyways looks like the gearbox will be waiting till next weekend and hopefully i can use my arm enough for work on monday.

Another update for the gq. ordered my 4 inch lift on fri so now i got the painful wait for it to turn up. Guess it will give me time to start the qtr chop before it gets here.
Anyways what my lift consists of is
4 amada extreme shocks
4 ss flexy coils
comp spec adj draglink
ss steering dampner
adj panhards
extended front bumpstops
ext brake lines
brake bias
diff breathers
ext swaybar link pins
drop boxes.
Also went to syd yesterday to pick up a set of 15x8 dynamic rims to replace the 15x7 i have with my 33sx12.5 bighorns now. Once i sell the junk commodore stuff i have taking up space in the shed i'll be searching for paint for a respray of the old girl.

Crikey, just read of your adventures with being squished - what a moment that must have been, followed up by days of pain.
It can happen so easily, even to the experienced. An service foreman/manager type I knew dropped his holden ute onto his chest about 6 weeks after a by pass. Luckily there was enough clearance under there to save him from serious harm but I bet it gave those stainless wire twitchings down his sternum a work out.
Good to see you are alive, and well enough to keep on keeping on!
Thanks for sharing.

Yeh thanks fellas it was definately a lesson learnt in that department think i'll just use the shed from now on as its flat and the carport is slightly slopped.
On another note 99% of my lift turned up this week with a 2 week wait on the rear shocks wish is a shame but not much i can do about it.

Well as of this week i ordered and paid for a dts turbo kit, 3" exhaust and 3 vdo gauges( boost, pyro, water temp). The exhaust and gauges turned up yesterday but turbo ended up in bris. Great!.

The turbo is done. Sorry i dont have any pictures of the install like i wanted as it was very frustrating to do and in that frustration forgot the photos. I'm just hoping i have done it right. Is there any way to tell if i done something wrong? It started and you would never know there was a turbo fitted.

You need to show the oil feed and drain and water pipes but if the turbo is getting oil to lube it and water to cool it, your kicking goals mate!!
BLKWDW
23rd March 2013, 11:12 PM
the oil feed line is from the allen headed bolt inbetween the passenger engine mount. The water enters from the heater hose to the outside fitting on the turbo then exits through the inside fitting of the turbo to the rear of the block. Fitting the piping was damn tight. I also either had to much oil in the sump or went to low as when making my whole i lost a bit of oil out of the sump.

Well just got back from a 4 day trip with the new turbo. The turbo performed faultlessly with the only issue being high egt's towing the camper so pretty much had to drive by the gauge. Besides a loose wheel bearing the trip went well and the family loved it once again. Once my mum upload the pics she has which isnt many i'll put them up.

Went well mate loved it. Needs a tune though as it was reaching 500 on the egt gauge 1/2 way to 3/4 up most hills so had to back of but until then it flies with the camper in tow yet to drive it without the camper since i fixed the boost leak so should be even better.

Funnily enough everyone wanted a drive of it through the wombat holes. Also added a boost controller and upped the boost to 15psi. Wouldnt say it goes alot better but better fuel economy and egts take longer to rise as well. With the turbo and 3 inch exhaust iy doesnt sound any different to when it was stock. The turbo makes no noise and the exhaust note is no different either and thats coming from more then just me. Wierd.

Great flex shots :)
The biggest problem with taking the bikes was deciding which to use the patrol or my yz450.
Think its time for some sway bar disonnects and see how far it will flex. Should have more in it with my lift i got.
