This may have been posted on here previously - but being a newbie - would LOVE to know of any simple, inexpensive ways to stop the window rattle in my 89 GQ.
Would it take something as drastic as replacing the window regulator and guides??
I know a few scratches and dents add character - but the noise is just annoying.

How cheap and nasty do you want to go...
I used to just shove folded paper in the glass/rubber on my "other" 4wd's in the past...LMAO

Hi Mick
You may have to remove the door trim and check that the guide adjusting bolt are tight and the guides are adjusted correctly also that the regulator is tight and the rollers are not damaged.
The replacement of the guide felt runners can be done without removing the glass just have the glass about three quarters down and slide the old one out by removing it from the top of the frame and pulling the side felt up then replacement is in reverse. good luck as I hate rattles as well.

Also, check the rubber runner isn't down inside the door ... mine was on both front windows - both rattling ... took the door covers off, lifted this back in place and 'secured' with a bit of silastic, and all good from there.
It was the front strip on both windows ... my brothers GQ had the same problem (exactly), so appears to be common (ish).

Is this noise present with the window wound fully up, just when open part way, or fully down?

It seems the window rattle when it is up or part way up/down - but not rattling much when all the way down. Guess it will take removing the inside door trim and having a good look around - something is loose for sure as I can grab the glass and rock it back and forth about a centimetre or so.
I like the simpleness of your solution AB - but it rains so much here in QLD at the moment - I fear the paper solution will not be long lasting, maybe a day or two at best.

I'd say you need to replace the bailey channel (rubber guide aound window frame).

X2 on the rubber guide. A quick and cheap way is to put a few wee gobs of rtv around the channel to replace the worn rubber. Don't go overboard and glue your window in though.

Hi there, I had a similar issue with my GQ with both front windows ratling. I took off the door trim and found that the channel guide that the window goes down in, had been riveted and the rivets had popped through. I cleaned up the hooles and re-riverted them with slightly larger riverts and now no more rattles. You've got to take the door trim off to look what the problem is first though, and it's not a very hard job to do.
Good luck...

I'd say you need to replace the bailey channel (rubber guide aound window frame).X2. Did this on mine and stopped the rattles. Clark rubber have the correct profiles for a GQ/MQ, felt rubber bailey channel is what it is.

Do you need to remove the glass to replace the bailey channel ?
when the window is up I get rattling/creaking sounds at the base of the window, along the weather seals. once I place my elbow onto the door and window it stops.
