View Full Version : GQ fuel gauge (hardly worth a thread)

Just a real quick question because I'm confused.
One time a while ago I was driving on petrol and had about half a tank left according to the gauge. However it started coughing and splurting, so I switched to gas and it was fine. Thought no worries fuel float thing might be stuck or the gauge has gone shonky. It was dead on half tank when that happened so since then whenever it got near half tank I put $20 or so of petrol in it. I filled up completely with petrol today (I have a 120L long range tank) and got confused when I could only put 60L in.

Long story short and what will tell me what I need to know, when you switch the ignition off and take the key out, does your GQ fuel gauge go to empty or does it still show how much fuel you've got? When my key is off and out now it shows a full tank and doesn't move when you turn the key on.

Mine stays where it lays as it were when you remove the key ...

Odd one mate, hang tight and hopefully someone with more experience around this can assist!!

That makes me think that it is indeed full to the brim. Must have just been playing up that particular day. Thank Christ, I thought I was going to have to buy $200 worth of petrol, but it was only around $90.

Yeah I'll be taking a couple of jerrys for sure. Estimating I'd get around 1000kms from 120L of petrol and 90L of gas. I get over 400kms from a gas tank but that goes down considerably in the bush obviously... Never hurts to be on the safe side of course!

Crikey!! Taking my word for something working is like taking Hitler's word that "he'll be nice to the Jews"!!!! lmao

Probably best to get others opinions and have it looked at mate - I reckon I'd hear you screaming "BIIIGGGGGGGGGRIIIGGGGGGGGG YOU B@STARD" from the back of beyond if you run out of juice!!!!

LMFAO!!!!
