Please help.
I have a 1998 Patrol GQ.
I had an exciting bit of experience last night.
There is a bar with tie rods on either end that sits behind the front axle ( I am unsure what this part that is the bar and tie rods are called).
Anyway the tie rod stripped out of the bar (the threads are really worn through).
So the vehicle is immobile, and the tires and turn in.
I have removed the tie rods.
I want to know what is the correct name for these parts (that is the tie rod and the bar which is attached to them) and where in Brisbane can I obtain these parts. PS: I do reside in Forest Lake
Also any idea of what I will pay for these items.

Hey AG, Bad luck mate.
The part you describing is in fact the Tie Rod. and the ends are....believe it or not... the Tie Rod Ends ;) You did good mate.
I would give the local wreckers a call and see if you can find one off a car. You note that the Tie Rod end thread is stripped or the Rod is stripped? Which is it?
You can get an aftermarket upgrade off ebay for a couple of hundred $. If you were in Melbourne i'd sell you my spare for $50. Try a wreckers mate.
FYI
The rod that sits in front of the Diff that goes from the steering box to the left side hub is the "Drag Link" and the Rod that sits behind the Diff and goes Hub to Hub is the "Tie Rod". The Large diameter rod that goes from the diff to the chassis is called the Panard Rod.
Good luck mate.

X2 - done well mate!!
Try wreckers, but truth be told, spend the bit extra if you can and grab a new upgrade - couple of hundred including the tie rod ends ... won't be stripping that bad boy for a while!! lol
Good luck with it mate!!

This is the Mecavel one that superior engineering do-

they also do a comp spec one which is a bit more expensive. But as the guys above have said, if you can get a decent one off a wreck you should be able to save yourself some pennies.

OUCH!!!! Damn! bugger, if you had time on your side then the upgrade to a Superiors is Hand and feet BETTER than the little thing that Nissan just sold you. Bugger. Also they are greasable and just way way stronger. WAY WAY stronger.
Oh well. if you have the Option to take it back mate for that $ I'd be going the Superiors in a Heart beat.
