Hi All

I'm looking for some advice on what tyres to.get. I was going to go for Yokohama ATS, but having doubts now. Highway driving Brisbane to Adelaide, then to Flinders Ranges, up to Uluru, Kings Canyon onto Alice then Mount Dare through to Birdsville and back. Was looking at 285 65 17.

Just after some opinions preferably someone who has done similar trips.

Cheers

Cannot see any problem with the size, a good all terrain tyre will do that trip easily.
Your fuel economy will be good and they wont be noisy on the black.
Todays tyres give good sidewall protection on the more expensive tyres.
Thats where your choice is a bit more difficult as there are so many available and there are lots of opinions as to what is best.
Cooper has released a new version of their ATR which has had good reports from owners.
Micky Thompson have a few tyres in the AT range so offer a bit of choice.
Whatever you get tyre pressure is mor important and carry a good compressor of course.
There are topics on this forum that discuss Tyres and Compressors in depth.
Good luck mate, sounds like a great trip, we did it in 08 and had a ball.

Hi Bundy Dave,

I can only fing two AT's in that size. Bridgestone 694 and Dunlop Grandtrek AT22. The 17 are a bit limiting o sizes. Perhaps there are others but that's what I found.

Picked this up at Tuff Trucks
Micky Thompson brochure lists 17" rim size
ATZ 4 Rib; 265/70, 285/70, 305/65 and 35"x12.5"
ATZ 5 Rib: 245/70, 265/70, 285/70, 315/70 and 33"x12.5"
STZ; 265/65 and 275/70
Imagine Cooper would do same as the are supposed to come from same factory.
Reckon there would be a few others with a 17" range if you did a bit of looking around.

I have used these on 2 4wds now, and for an AT they are a great tyre. They don't come in 285/65/17, but just go up slightly to a 285/70/17.

Thanks all,

I decided to order the Yoko's 285/65/17 they have a good warranty(free replacement within first 25% of tread for damage including stakings, kerb damage etc; pro rata credit for unused portion if between 25% and 50% wear). hopefully dont have to use it but at least it's peace of mind warranty.

Cheers
