Looking at getting a Patrol, either a 05-06 3.0l, or a 01-02 4.2l. Problem is that i like to do my own services, and would like them to be as easy as possible. I get real busy sometimes, and instead of doing the service at 5000km, it will get streached out to 6000- 7000km max but 90% of the time it will be done at 5000-5500km.
So seeing I get so busy sometimes and am bound to neglect the patrol a little maybe once a year, what should I buy?
Early 02 4.2 or later 05-06 3.0l ?

Petrol Patrols don't need oil because the amount of fuel they drink keeps them cool enough not to require lubrication..... Would one be right in assuming this ?

My 1993 4.2i has done 198000+ miles in total, last 70 000 mile serviced twice and me driving hard (I am silly) on and off road. Starts drives and sounds, sweet, but looking tatty. If I owned an oil well I would only drive my troll.

I'd forget about the GU and buy a GQ..................after all they don't even need a service

Well I do believe tecnincally If one is pouring oil in the top of an engine at the rate they need to own a oil well, it is still regarded as "Servicing" in it's very crudest form. I don't own a oil well, and would prefer the GU over the GQ as the GQ's must be very old with their speedos still reading in miles, and I prefer the KMH mesurment. Furthermore the GU would be the go as it seems to be cool these days to be playing with high explosives.

So now that I have ruled out the Petrol, and the GQ, has anyone got the answer to the original question ?

Yep you got the Queen, not sure of your definition of glory????
But fuel at $2.12 AUD whooska.
We are probably heading that way but my local servo was $1.449 last night for Diesel
Grab a 4.2TD, they are not quick and do use a bit of fuel, but they go for thousands of K's if looked after and if you want to have a look around central Australia, deisel is easier to carry, safer to handle and get hold of.
A mate in desperation bought some off a grader driver in the middle of nowhere, he was lucky for sure but the bloke didnt have petrol!!!!
