Hi guys. ive had a y60 LWB auto for almost 3yrs now, bloody almost bulletproof. Ive done a few unexpected jumps, have tipped it on its side, and all ive had to do in 3yrs is fluids/filters and an exhaust flange gasket.
Ive now got oil leaking from the front hubs, ive been told it needs new seals so ill get onto that.
Also on the beach the otherr day,i got stuck on the beach,a guy said its not in 4wd,it was but the front wasnt engaging, anyways, when he pulled me out it started to engage and bang from the front wheels now and again.......locking hubs maybe? Its a manual locker.
Also it has an annoying shake at 95 odd kms,ive been told kingpin bearings?
I pulled the cover on the hub and they looked to be ok,but apparently I have to shim or take some out?
Anyways im glad to have found this site, the kiwi equiv can be a bit slow sometimes, still helpfull but i think everyones out fishing when i ask a question

Hey mate

I'd be pulling the hubs out and just checking the splines inside - they are pretty bloody tough, so would be surprised if they've let go. Maybe no grease and one is a bit loose and moved out of the locked position???

The shudder at 95 could be a range of things - tyres out of round, shot shocks, bushes on radius arms, steering damper shot, balance, etc. not sure I'd be starting with the swivel hub bearings, but not to be ruled out. Have you gone over all the bushes, checked damper and shocks for leaking oil, etc???

Are the tyres wearing evenly? If they are 'scalloping' that is usually a sign of shot shocks. If wearing poorly, that could be alignment/balance issue.

Have a gander at all those things and let us know - others will have input/advice also no doubt.

Good luck with it mate!!

cheers bigrig,im going to have a day of going over the whole thing.
I pulled both lockers off last week as one is leaking, and after putting back in i noticed the left dial didnt feel as though the spring was working behind it to lock it in place.
Ill let u know how i go man. cheers

No worries mate - yep, those hub dials should be firm and smooth - if it's loose (ish) or even loose just at one point, then might be the issue there. Rip em out, check em, and grease em up (not too much is required - don't fill the cavity or anything like that).
