Hey fella`s before I burn the vehicle can anyone shed some light onto my dark thoughts of my TB45 powered(underpowered) patrol. This is the first petrol Patrol I have owned and the first ever vehicle on gas. When we go the vehicle it idled very roughly and missed under load.A new set of plugs and leads and a bit of a tweak of the valve clearances had it starting and running like a dream that is until a hill is seen in the distance here it completely drops its bundle to the point where a 2.8 Hilux can overtake and leave it behind.petrol or gas makes little difference it is just woefull.Anyone have any ideas where to start.

That's an odd one mate on gas ... where are you based?? Sounds like the mixtures could be up the poo, vacuum leak and/or air leak in intake lines, etc ...

Let us know where you're from and someone may be able to recommend a decent LPG specialist for you - I know one, but he's in brissy (and if that's close, I'll give you the details).

All the best with it!!

sounds like a good tune up is on the cards,if you havnt the right air filter that will slow you down also
must have a genuine nissan filter for it

I'd be trying to find someone to suss it out mate - lpg is sort of less prone to issues than petrol - if it's working, it's working (kind of), except for bad mixtures etc ...

Best of luck with it mate.

Check you exhaust system, especially the cat is not blocked.

Just get under the vehicle and give it a good thump, if it rattles there's a good chance its blocked.

"cat"?

Bentrod ... I know a guy in Woden, but that's along way from Yass. Or is Goulburn closer?

Ok today was makeit or burn it day.I grabbed my Haynes manual and did valve clearances again, cleaned the PCV system,Maf sensor and gas mixer.I grabbed the Fluke meter and followed the test procedures for Coil,Transistor, leads and cap, found the oxygen sensor to not be within specs and replaced.I used electrical contact cleaner and gave every join a solid clean then I Kicked the Cat then went back to the Pootrol and did as yendor suggested and guess what it rattled.A trip to e-bay will see another one here next week. After all this I took the family for a sunday drive and the improvement was very noticeable not up to V8 supercar but I am very pleased.I think a trip to a reputable gas tuner is on the cards (thanks Twisty) and the Shopping Trolley may stay in the driveway a little longer.thanks for the advice fella`s

What!!! Dog lovers I see....lolololo

Twisty,

I'm not sure if you are having a dig at me for my lazy typing or not but I was referring to the catalytic convertor.

What can happen when an engine has a miss fire. Unburned fuel can enter the catalytic convertor, this can cause the catalytic convertor to have a melt down, this then restricts the flow of exhaust gases which can reduce engine performance on both petrol and gas.

Bentrod,

That's great you have already gained some performance with the work you carried out today.

After replacing the oxygen sensor it is a good idea to disconnect the battery for at least half an hour. This will reset the ECU.

It would also be a good idea to do this after the exhaust repairs.
