I have a gu ute coily, and have been having a few dramas with this bracket!

I recently got a 3" exhaust and when its flexing the extended bracet rubbs on the exhaust, so i moved the bracket over now im not sure if its even working? Cause there is no tension in the spring! i couldnt tell any difference in braking!

Does this bracket even do much? Could i p@ss it off?

It's to compensate brake pressure when the rear is under load - have you tried braking with some weight on the back yet?? They are probably no different without load, but with it ...

I wouldn't be chucking it just yet mate ...

i had dramas with mine when i lifted it there is a bolt in valve i took this out and fitted a threaded longer bolt and use some nuts to set the desired pressure on the valve took a little bit of tweaking but in the end got them how i liked ( this car doesnt get driven much). Depends on its use but i woukd move it back to where it was and modify your exhaust, the exhaust will do its job where ever it goes but this bracket need to be in this position

No worries mate, i never really carry any weight so thats probly why i didnt notice it too much!

Thanks bigrig!

Thanks mate, I might give that threaded bolt a go n see how i go! If that fails off to the exhaust blokes ill go!

Cheers!

I would be worried about heavy emergency type braking if that bracket was gone and ya had to hit the skids.......

I think the brake thingy connected to the steel whatchamacallit is actually called a 'Brake Proportioning Valve' ... lol

It proportions how much the brakes are applied as weight load is increased in the rear of any vehicle - increase the weight, it increases the braking force in the rear ...

My 4"lift kit came with an extended bracket (nothin special) so i figured it must be fairly important, i wouldnt go stuffin around with it.

It gets lifted proportionally to the lift size - 2" lift, means a 2" longer plate, 3" lift = 3" longer plate and so on ... done to keep the Proportioning valve at standard setting.

Haha, yeah i knew the purpose of it, just thought it wasnt that effective!

My ute is horrible in the braking department anyways!

But yeah as said, in hard braking it must help!

Cheers

Its legal in qld to end your exhaust just after the cab ina ute i have mine dumped to ground about 6 or so inches from the back of the cab sounds very good :)

I've got a fairly big lift but what I did was fixed the spring to the fuel tank bracket so there is full flow through the bias valve all the time as I have big drawers, fridge, 150lt tank, 70lt water tank, roof rack, Hi lift mounted on rear of rack, misc gear in back and drawers, so a fair bit of weight. The Patrols rear brakes aren't great at the best of times so the more pressure mine gets the better.

"It proportions how much the brakes are applied as weight load is increased in the rear of any vehicle - increase the weight, it increases the braking force in the rear ... "
It does it by letting more fluid through = more pressure to the brake pistons.

id fix it definitely, I’ve got airbags on my hilux and man u can tell the difference with the brakes when the bags are pumped up as the valve senses no load yet I’m carrying a ton sometimes up to 1.3ton it will act at one of 2 extremes (pumped up v's bags deflated) back will lock up or the front will lock up on full stomp of the pedal

my extended bracket broke off my 7" lifted patrol when away on a desert trip ... i never noticed any difference so never bothered fixing it
