As some of you are aware I have a GQ its the 4.2 petrol injected type BUT it has LPG anyhoo.

I am looking at getting rid of my air box that has exploded (LPG backfire) and replace it with either the GU's 3ltr or a univeral so I can make room for a second battery.

My question is for the guru's of air control etc or anyone who has one.

Do the universal air boxes work well? or are they no good?

here is a link to one.

do you plan on having a snorkel? if so, im not sure any of them are any good.
What part of the box exploded. top or bottom.
mine blew up, i picked up a nice 1 from wreckers, and with a few mods, is a treat.
will try find a pic
also, a commodore vp? airbox is easily modded to fit. (someone correct me if it's not a vp )
Every way i looked at it, what ever i put in, could not fit a battery under the bonnet :(

on mine, swampy hit it with a lighter, heated up the plastic, and moulded it together. seemed to work well.
I think big rig has the patrol top airbox on a commodore bottom part.
hopefully he can shed some light on it

Hey mate, another option is a 60 series airbox, about $90 or so from a wreckers and can be easily modified for a 4" inlet,
here's a pic of mine in a TD, 4" in and 3" out also plenty of room for second battery.

I would go the gu box these bolt straight in filters are easily sourced and leave room for the second battery.

I brought this when i was in a similar situation, works very well on my petrol LPG, i've turned my snorkel around and havent had any dramas.

For the price i think you could do better then this, mine was a last minute decision that cost me $400 :/

Hi mate, heres a pic for some ideas:
The previous owner fitted it and cut and re-braised the inlet in a different position
Its some sort of gutlux prefilter and it hurts me to say i have a toyo bit on my trol!! lol
Only 3 inch but food for thought anyway.

PS: Previous owner also put that shocking plastic flexy snorkel on too!!!! I am making a stainless one..

admittedly i dont have lpg on my tb42e but with some easy relocation of the coil and vacume canister you can use a piranha tray to suit a 2.8 gq in the back corner of the engine bay to fit a full size second battery while keeping the std airbox

yeah the LPG system just destroys all room in the front right

you could always remote mount it possibly a roof mounted setup or in cab probably a little drastic but keeps the engine bay free

I think the wife would kill me if I had it on the roof
