I am looking at buying a ZD30 GU with a (you guessed it) dead motor and I am wondering if the turbo would be ok to fit to a TD42? I think the intercooler would be ok to use.
Also can anyone shed some light on the dead ZD30. The owner tells me that it just stopped one day, no bang or smoke. He replaced the injector pump but it won't start. I would like to sell the ZD30 running to offset the TD42 upgrade. Any ideas or things to try?
Thanks. :)

The Turbo setup off a ZD30 would be totally unsuitable for a TD 42, Cobber.
As much as I love any 'previous owner' I wouldn't put much faith in a word they said. If it has a good pump installed professionally which won't start then something fairly terminal is usually wrong... and why would you sell a busted truck if it wasn't economical to fix and get more money for it.
First thing I'd do is get a compression check. It's a diesel so if it has compression and fuel it should make at least some sort of noise unless the pump change was a backyard job and is mistimed or something stupid

I am always dubious about what previous owners say about their vehicles. I would be paying the price of a dead motor, but thought if it was something simple I would be cheering. The pump was a 2nd hand job, so who knows. Is their a pump in the tank? Maybe they changed the wrong pump or blew a fuse.
I am going to have a look at it tomorrow and try and get a better idea of what happened. I am really only after the rolling body anyway. If I do pick it up then I will spend a little time on it before removing it, there are always plenty of ZD30 owners looking for a replacement. :)

ROFLMAO... Ouch
Yeah, good plan. Could be any amount of different things. You can still get a few bucks parting out the deceased motor if it won't run so if you are after the body only and that is all in great shape then it's still a win.

Was that to harsh? :tease:
After starting to look around for a dead one they do appear often.

You ask the same questions in different ways every time. If the motor is dead replace it with your 4.2 you keep saying. you could sell the turbo cooler injectors and anything else besides the block for some cash to buy the 4.2. blown 3ltr are harder to find as the problem seems to have been fixed just the eary models had the problem like any engine there are good and bad ones.
