This is how the ole girl started life. It's a 1999 GQ DX Coily ute. 145000 on the clock 2" spring lift, 2" body lift, Cheezy racing highmount bar, sliders, 2x lightforce 170, 2x lightforce 240, gme tx4400 uhf, rono roof console, boost pyro oil and water temp gauges in dash mounted pod, 33's, DTS turbo kit running 10psi, safari snorkel, aftermarket reverse light, LED tail lights, tow bar. I think thats about it. Picker her up for 8k just over 3 yrs ago.

Then came the 35's. In a 35x12.50x15 Mickey Thompson MTZ variant. This is how it stayed for nearly 12 months.

nissannewby
8th March 2012, 10:10 PM
Then came the lift. 5" lift superior drop arms, dobinson coils, tough dog 45mm adjustables, superior panhards, superior drag link, tough dog adjustable steering dampener, superior lower control arms, superior rear shock mounts.(This is the only photo i could find of the weekend i put it in.)

nissannewby
9th March 2012, 11:39 AM
And this is how she sits at the moment. Put some new led tail lights in and a bloody bright reverse led light too. I will slowly get around to posting some action shots through its build up as well its just finding the time. I have a super flex arm coming for it also and i need to do some slight mods to the tray and rear end.

Will get some more photos up when im back in brissy i fly in and out for work and i am currently in mackay. I have some more mods i would like to do, these inc - super flex arm for the front with longer remote reservoir shocks to go with the extra travel that will be gained. Rear coil tower brace with a shock hoop/mount incorporated so i can have longer shocks in the rear as i have moved the lower mounts up. drop out cones for the rear springs. Fit a superior long arm kit to compliment the rear end. Remove and modify tray slightly adding tie down rails, spare wheel carrier and modify mounting so i can fit 37's under the ole girl. And probably a little while down the track setting up an A frame rear end. Thanks everyone for motivation and your replies hope to keep you guys informed.

wouldnt bother with an a frame, it is do do with geometries, it dosnt make any improvements on the stock 5 link one of the guys from dgr racing told me not to. if you are going to that trouble put a 4 link in flex HEAPS better

Where do you get these coil tower brace/shock mount from, are they bolt on or weld.

Good job mate looks bloody brilliant. Id love to cut mine down into a ute, alas wife n kids n dog are stopping me at the moment

nissannewby
14th March 2012, 10:49 PM
superior do a bolt in coil brace but im gonna do a custom one with tube to incorporate the shock mounts into it and at the same time will be welding in the drop out cones and plating the top of the towers to then weld the brace and shcok mount onto

Tuff truck 2012? Lol

nissannewby
9th May 2012, 04:19 PM
I do like tuff truck but its a lot of coin for basically a one off event lol. This will be going under the knife again shortly but i want to be able to drive it many many places if i choose to compete in tuff truck one day i will get another one for that i think lol. I would like to compete in other events that are more common although these days its getting increasingly difficult to enter there are a few now with the mods that i have i would require a roll cage to enter just cos i have 35's. If anyone is keen in the long run to build a tuff truck style rig for the event i may be interested.

Ok so update time. Only a small one. Here is some pics of the rest of the lights I bought off Mick. I got them fitted today and will get some more pics of the finished product and some pics of them in action. The angle eye parkers look awesome and you could nearly use these as low beam. The old girl is finally gonna get a run tomorrow the first one in about 6 months.

It might be hard to see but the old screws that held the collar on and also the light adjustment screws were pretty well buggered. So I got out the nutsert tool and bought some new bolts and it come up a treat.

Both your utes are coming along nicely mate. How hard were the lights to fit, and how long did it take?

Cheers!

nissannewby
2nd November 2012, 11:51 PM
Lights were straight forward in the GQ maybe 3hrs but I was taking my time the wiring is basically plug and play, a few things needed to be extended but thats easy as. The GU ones were a little trickier as you have to heat the light up to get it apart to fit the projectors.

Ok so finally have had time to get some pics of the lighting conversion fitted.

First one low beam with bulbs and ballasts. You can how the light is everywhere hence why they are bad for oncoming traffic.

I got the dollars I expected with the condition it was in and being unregistered. I could have spent a lot of time on it and cleaned it up a fair bit but at this point that wasn't affordable.

No worries. No good as I need a coil rear diff anyway. Planning to fully brace a set, throw some lockers in and then just swap them out.
