Hi all, joined up a while ago, not many posts at all, and haven't been on for the past couple of months due to slow internet and lack of computer availability. Oh, and spending most my free time fixing my rig of course!
Rundown:
89 Model GQ, TB42 carby, Dual fuel.
2" lift
33" MTZ's
Genie Extractors
Ummm, that's all I can think of at the moment.
But with a bit of right foot, careful wheel placement, and the correct crossing of fingers, she goes just about anywhere!
Few Pics for all of you, with a few of my dad's GU, and one of My sister deciding she want's out of my car???
Cheers!

Hmmm, a run sounds good - however shes off the road at the moment due to a blown radiator hose and a stuffed clutch.
But, if your ever going out a Saturday on a pay week, just give me a buzz and I'll be their before you know it!

haha, yep, but what you don't see is that he snatched me out of the same hole only minutes before, only to be told he had to get through to beat me - well thats how it turned out. (I think at least 35's were needed, the ruts were quite deep!)

Nup, was just clear. Took an off line, didn't make it out, reversed back for another attempt and rammed the exhaust into a mound of dirt, blocking the zorst and stalling my engine. Hence the need for the snatch that is visible!
And if you ever call my brother a chivalrous gent again, I will ram a dictionary down your throat!

Too true Nissannewby.
Despite my age (and I'm not trying to brag here) I think I'm actually not to bad at picking a good line, having been dad's navi since I can remember. I always seem to find that it's driving a little to the left/right of the 'worn in' line that seems to get the best results
Still, can't wait to get out there again, looking forward to meeting you all, learning from your experience, and recovering some yota's.
Oh, and we have to find somewhere that Bigrig can't get Tank up, (hmmm, like thats ever gunna happen)

Looks good. Whats the cutout for? Have a look at ozzyboy's build he has a very neat lookin draw setup in the rear of his similar to what you have drawn up.
Punderhead
21st July 2012, 06:35 PM
Thanks nissannewby. The cutout is so I can still access the shutoff valve on my LPG tank, as it is inside the rear of the car.
I actually made a start on my rear drawers today. have made the main body, but still need to make the drawers and the side bits, as I want to have a complete false floor in the back. The height is of the gas tank, as the tank holders support part of the floor.
I also changed my design slightly to allow the one drawer to open when I only have the small door to open.
Cheers!

Looks good mate well done, ive made my carcass about 6mths ago and its still sitting in the shed :-)
nissannewby
21st July 2012, 09:40 PM
You could do a lid type setup down each side and use that space there that normally would be void for the storage of recovery gear tool kits jumper leads etc.
Punderhead
21st July 2012, 10:02 PM
Yeah I was thinking of doing something like that. I'm just looking at the best way to do it so I can access through my sliding rear windows - just in case i can't open my rear drawers for recovery.
The other problem is that the height brings the false floor up to the windows. so If I put anything in I will have to secure it somehow to stop it sliding round and smashing through some glass.
Cheers!

Well no more done on the drawers yet - however i just replaced the bushes on my passenger side radius arm - chassis end. Thats what my banging noise whenever I hit a bump was - the bush was almost completely gone!!!
So i think that most my bushes can't be too far behind, so I have ordered a bush kit for radius arms, panhards, upper and lower control arms. - hopefully will replace them soon, but the electrical box on the pres at work just got smashed up, so I don't know how long it will be before I am able to use it (low priority - we use it maybe once every 3 months)
Cheers!

I did a rear quarter chop the other day, and knocked up a rear bar this arvo. Still needs a coat of paint, and also a bit of modifying to make it stronger, but I am pretty happy with how it turned out!
Sorry bout the poor quality, will get some better pics tommorow!
Cheers!

15th September 2012, 07:57 PM
Gave the rear bar a quick flick of paint today and got some more pics. I eventually plan to replace the bits of flat holding the mudflaps with proper tube and bolt it to the chassis for more strength on the side.
Got a few more pics.

I don't know what came over me!!! Today I suddenly had a desire to finish things, installed my stereo system (yes the one I got last year), finished my rear drawers, and mostly installed my UHF. (The aldi UHF's can be made to fit in place of the rubbish sliding tray until you plug the Cord for the aerial in and then it won't!) My car actually looks complete for the first time since I bought it!
Pics to come soon

replaced my broken taillight today. one less thing to worry about next time I get pulled over.
Does anyone have any ideas on a good replacement solid flare that attaches to the outside of the car so I can't rip it off every time I have a little bit of flex? something that won't break the apprentice bank either.

My next dilemma. I have a near new MTZ as my spare tyre, so I could get away with buying only 3 new MTZ's. Alternativly, I can get 4 new Maxxis Bighorns for a similar price. What would you do?

Cheers Growler I am actually thinking of putting in a 3" flexi lift with 6" shocks, but funds play a big part in this decision. also Need to hurry up and build myself some sliders that hide my sills :)
Also debating the advantiges of fabbing myself a tube bar but I don't know when I would get round to it.

2nd November 2012, 04:17 PM
Well i started building myself a set of rocksliders the other day, and have mostly finished the drivers side one.
PROBLEM!!! I had hoped that I could use the sliders to hide the majority of the sill damage, so it would look better. WRONG. Instead, I have put a nice straight piece of pipe next to my bent up sill, only highlighting the dents :/
:biggrin::biggrin:Also got my green P's!!!:biggrin::biggrin:
Got a couple pics.

You could do a sill chop as well and just weld some 6mm flat bar where the sills use to be. Its coming along nicely though keep up the work.
Punderhead
2nd November 2012, 07:23 PM
Yeah thanks nissannewby I was thinking about doing something similar to that.
The next thing I need to do is to find a flare I can put on and not rip off. And mudflaps. I am currently thinking of getting some flares made that bolt onto the side rather than underneath the wheel arch. Something similar to the flares off a wrangler.
Cheers!

Well been a while but time for an update on the rig.
She has a few more battle scars - but is still going strong.
I recently purchased a ste of 33" Bighorns, and also a set of 31" Allterrains for road tyres.
Finally finished my sliders
Bent a lower control arm - so replaced both with Racebred4wd Ones
Went 4bying
And discovered yesterday that the new bushes that i bought for my control arms (Just to clarify - these were not racebred4wd bushes) lasted 2 weeks and Are now completely stuffed! So I have to do the job again tomorrow :furious:
A few pics. - Gu is my dad, GQ ute and Rodeo are mates and Prado is mates cousins.

Well got the new bushes in, and took it for a test drive. Suffice to say It is now covered in mud. I have to wash it tomorrow morning.
But, on the plus side... washing it means that I didn't get defected tonight!!! YAY!!
I am not quite sure which way to go, as i think some other bushes are on their way out, and I am keen to replace them, but all the ones i have are the same crap ones that lasted 2 weeks in my lowers. So I'm not sure that I want to risk trying another set of rubber bushes, but I have heard that poly bushes give you less flex.
Thoughts?
Cheers!

How can you do that legally in QLD , Im sure the laws in w.a are ridiculous. Can you upload some pics of your cuts how your going about it interested as.
Punderhead
24th June 2013, 08:41 PM
I have spoken to the engineer, and by only cutting it into a dual cab I am leaving the pillars behind the doors, which means the body retains the rigidity it needs. If I was to chop it into an extra cab it would be a whole lot harder to get engineered. As for the seats I don't know if I will worry about engineering them cause it costs to much and harder to notice.
A bit of hoop jumping is required but the guy I'm using isn't too bad.

Been a while so i thought I would finally grab the pictures I promised.
32866 32867
This is how it will look. It is the original d pillar, fitted up to the c pillar. retaining the original angle of the d pillar. I will fill in the gap with a bit of sheet and I will still retain the air vents for an original look.
32868
Where I cut off the d pillar. I will need to fill it in with some sheet, as well as the tops of the doors.
3286932870
With the windowsill, I have cut off the strip that holds the windows in via the rubber. As this is also what holds the two panels together, I still have to weld it up and smooth it over.
3287132872
The gas tank will still sit inside the car, and so the tub space will be quite small. (The tank is sitting there for measurements, I'm not stupid enough to weld/grind with it there!)
32874
Still have to knock out all the dents, finish welding it all up, sand, and paint. At the moment electric blue is the colour at the top of my list.
Cheers

Here is how it sits now.
The only dilemma i now have is to sell it after i finish it to fund mods for my other patrol, or keep it as a weekend warrior and turn my other one into a tourer. The dilemmas of a 3rd year with too many toys......

So I sold my other wagon, to fund another car yet again.
Chop should be done soon (really gotta get a move on with it!) and then I will swap over all the gear off a shorty I bought. Only have a few old pics from the owner, but pick it up in around 3 weeks.
Specs:
Tb42 swb
4" lift, full superior arms
High mount winch
37" super swampers on flipped rims, internal bead locks.
4.6 diff ratios
Front arb air locker
Rear diff shimmed up
Near new clutch/gearbox.

So waiting for my mate to get home from work so I can use his sockets.
In the meantime I have measured up the tray, and will be pricing up the steel at various places, to hopefully start the tray on the coming weekend.
Hoping to have everything swapped over, tray built and ready to drive in a month. Then I'll be hitting the tracks hard!!

Update time. Progress is slow, as I've been out of the country for a few weeks, and working flat out while I've been here.
But anyway. Still waiting to get my front diff back from my mate (he's checking the locker and putting the 4.6 centre in).
I've put the front diff back in the shorty so it can roll around (although I'm seriously thinking of Comp trucking the shorty, just for fun)
And I have a td42tisitting at work waiting to be thrown in.
Shouldn't be too much longer now!

Soo, I got all my switches and lights. Now to wire them all up. Also picked up a snorkel for $70 so got to fit that too. Still a long list to go but it's slowly shrinking!
But the plus side is I took it for a run last weekend and loved every minute of it!!!
Cheers!

Headed out to the rockit toowoomba comp at Janowen hills on the weekend. Had a few mates competing, and had an awesome weekend.

Got the ute back from being tuned. Not the best power, but not bad considering the setup. Time to save for a 12mm pump and a garrett though methinks......http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/10/357.jpg

So. Been a while since I've been on here.
Anyway. Not a lot more has been done to the ute. Other than bending a couple of diffs. So I'm saving for a set of braced ones. Also saving for some armada extreme shocks.
Have been stating to do a few comps now. Did the rockit Comp back in March, planning to do round 2 and 3 soon.
Also planning to do the Logan challenge in September.

Went to janowen over Easter with a few mates

One from the rockit Comp

My mates ute, not mine, but I may or may not have done this minutes before him, and I may or may not have bent the front diff doing it.
Cheers

Well, just got back from the rockit comp, time to get stuck in and get it ready for Logan challenge.
In the next three months it's going to cop new springs/shocks. Re bushing throughout, braced front diff (preferably a gu one if I can find the $$$)
Also the tray needs to be straightened and properly braces after the weekend. While I'm at it is going to get proper sliders (I mean some solid bits of kit!!)
Also going to do a fair bit of a tidy up
In the engine bay, might finally get around to putting a proper bracket on my intercooler lol.
Have a new bonnet for it with scoops,
Going to get a whole lot of aftermarket gauges aswell. (Oil pres, boost, egt, water temp,)
Should be a good couple of months!

This is why my tray needs bracing lol.

Well, I've started back into the old girl today.
Started by cleaning out the inside, while doing so I realised that me being fat and jumping the ute too much has bent my seat rails, and cracked my floor pan. Pulled the seat out ready to fix/replace. Bars also off atm, will be getting a bit of a straighten and a quick lick of paint before going back on.
The grill also got a lick aswell....
Got a bit to do, but all going well I should have it together in 3 weeks for winter wheel!
Cheers!

Been a while since I updated, but I've been busy.
Long story short I've had to downsize my patrols so I can go to uni.
Soooo.
Currently pulling the td out of the ute and dropping it in a roller wagon cab.
The Utes gunna be out for a few years, but plans include a v8 and a few other goodies when I have $$$ again.
So here's the new wags anyway!!http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2016/11/81.jpg

I hope you're studying about Patrols in the uni, not about how to sell Patrols. :D ;)
