Hi Guys,

I am new to the forum as I have just purchased a MQ Patrol SWB L28 manual to use on the farm.

Now this thing is tired. i think it sat in a field for 2 years) It runs, just..... but blows a fair bit of smoke particularly on start up and is misfiring alot (exhaust smells of petrol). The 4x4 and drive line inc clutch seem pretty good.

I am going to get new leads/plugs/oil and fuel filter and change the oil for starters and see how it goes. Would anyone have any other suggestions? I notice parts are pretty cheap. If this doesnt make headway i'll probably pull and clean the carby look at doing valve guides.

If i dont get the love I am looking for from the engine, I have a 1uz 4.0 V8 and g'box from a lexus i could drop in (just a farm car, so i can just weld new mounts in pretty easy) . I may also turn it into a caged buggy if the mood takes me.

I am sure i'll be back scouring the forum for answers as I get to work on this thing.

thanks guys

Welcome, Steve!

Hope you sort out the L28 - but the Lexus engine and box sounds interesting!

Hi and welcome to Nissans Nut House Steve. L28 are readily available. If you do any mods, chuck up a build thread. Justto show us something diffeent.

Older patrols rule!
