Like that colour mate ... not too common, and doesn't look too bad dirty (mine shows up every speck of dust).

Yeah i love the colour i have had it about 9 months and it's just had it's second bath.
I had a black car previously it was shocking you wash it and it would look dirty again the next day.

The worst part about it being so nice is you can't have as much fun off road i sometimes wish it was a beat up rust bucket.

nice engine bay mate, you have any trouble fitting the airbox with the dual batteries?

97_gq_lwb
12th March 2012, 02:11 PM
No went straight in but i made the battery bracket up myself using a super cheap base then some flat bar supports.

looks clean as, not too many that neat, what sort of figures do you get from the turbo setup?

97_gq_lwb
19th March 2012, 06:28 PM
Figures ? what like dyno figures lol i believe they are a waste of time and often decieving.
They are handy for before and after comparisons i guess if done same day same dyno weather conditions etc.

just interested in improvements in power, torque, response, economy etc from the stocker td42

Hills are no longer a challenge but a pleasure.
It is more like a car to drive now then a truck.
Economy i haven't really tested thoroughly around town i had the fuel wound up a fair bit on the last tank and got 530 k's
I still have a quarter of a tank since winding it down and am at about 400 k's but have been using the aircon a lot on this tank .
And i am still running the stock exhaust as well i need to make a dump pipe to go with a 3 inch system i bought then fit it up.

Did you get done over by the dyno or the tuner or both lol
I do remember reading about your detonation issues.
It is more often then not motors are blown up prematurely by a nice big hill on the road after be dynoed for peak power unloaded.

Nahhh .... they were both good mate, but as you say, going for max berries on the machine is not always conducive to long engine life in the 'real' world!! They've resolved it though ... thankfully!!

Yeah lucky you knew what was happening.
A lot of people just keep on going until it's too late.

Well today i finally got out for a good play in the mud.
Damn dash cam recorded over the footage when a mate got stuck i turned the ignition off and when i turned it back on i didn't realise it was recording.
Trying to recover it now and will take some pics tomorrow before washing it.
The rear number plate got broken reversing through one spot in high range lol.
Had to snatch a pathfinder out a few times but it done quite well considering it has single spinner diffs.

Finally got out in the mud again what a difference.
I have since fitted 2 inch spring lift and body lift and some km2 35 inch tyres.
The mud holes are quite easy now. the difference is unreal instead of getting completely stuck going nowhere i now have traction.
Although their is one i got stuck in i still had movement back and forward just need a light snatch to get out of it has steep entry and exits that i just couldn't get up .
Hoping that the front locker will help with that one.

Hey looks tidy 97, like the Turbo setup mate, got any more details on that?

saw your second battery setup. looks neat. Heads up though mate, the battery is bloody heavy! The ARB and Pirahna trays take the top strap over the battery and over the washer bottle and bolt up to the side panel! There is a threaded hole there from factory ;) This will take a heap of the weight of the battery off the counter leaver of the tray and relieve the inner guard of allot of the weight! They tend to crack the inner guard in the front of the arch under the air box ;)

Looks sweet mate, like the colour.

Another bloke that was with us took some videos i'll try and get a hold of them.

Heres a bit of a thread for my turbo install

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?8550-Yet-another-Diy-turbo-kit-td42

we had a bit of a drag race yesterday a hilux and patrol gu turbo intercooled ute were racing so i give them a 20 meter head start then overtook both of them lol
the hilux lost out big time.

6th August 2012, 01:53 PM
Yeah i made up supports for the battery bracket just noticed you can't see them in the pic but it is flat bar behind the water bottle then two side bars to the tray from that to support it.

Heres my attempt at a hole nobody else would try.

deep you check the depth first or just dive in????

Where was that at????? That reminds me of the drop zone, heapz of bog holes and some deep ones 2 :)

97_gq_lwb
15th August 2012, 08:33 AM
yeah it is at the drop zone i have been in it before lol but this time i thought i had it with the 35's and lift etc.
Last time it was just straight in and stuck solid.

22nd August 2012, 04:25 PM
Well today i thought i had better investigate the strange noise coming from the front of the engine i had put it down to the bearings in the tensioner or aircon pump.
Anyway rocking the fan i noticed excessive movement in the water pump and the tensioner bearing was shot and the smaller roller far bottom right facing the engine was also buggered.
Not too bad though $75 for a gates water pump locally and $15 for all 3 bearings from a bearing supplier.

97_gq_lwb
25th August 2012, 06:02 PM
Well today i thought i would reco my old alternator as it had been in the drink and had a quick cleanup once before i knew i was up for new bearings and brushes.
So i went to the local auto elec and got brushes for $10 and then off to the bearing supplier and got the two bearings and seal for $40 .
As i went to leave my starter motor crapped it called a mate up and we push started it .
luckily i had another one here i checked over quickly regreased and fitted up being a reduction starter it now starts easy as.
Pulled the old one apart to find it was full of water and crud damn water holes lol.

97_gq_lwb
28th August 2012, 10:56 AM
I was thinking about intercooling it but i really don't think it needs it the egt's are low enough.

Hi 97 gq,

Just wondering if you're still around on this forum?

Am just doing the conversion myself ... and would really appreciate talking to someone with the experience of doing it. I'm 17 and live in a tiny country town so unfortunately none around for me to copy...
mainly needing help with what i should do with the vacuum system because i dont have a donor car.

looking forward to a reply! :D
