Safari tacho probllems

Hey guys, just signed up and thought i say hi. Got a couple of drahmas i would like help with.
I know there is other forum about tachos but... Mine is inaccurate to the point where it will get to 1500rpm any ideas how to sort the issue. TD42 88 safari. I have changed the dash and it has gone from working some times accurate to inaccurate.

also just wandering if anyone has experience with using 12 solar to charge a 24volt system. It is a grey area i think in theory it is posible with some complex regulator/diode but does anyone know how to do it?? thanks
