Hey guys long time no thread!

It's been a busy one - been back in the country for 4 months now and have the 89 Maverick just as long. Since we last spoke I've changed clutch, swapped out a dead alternator, put the cause of my electrical problems down to a former resident rat (found fried on the transfer case by the way) and general shit wiring by the previous owner as well as popping a tyre back on the rim after my wife popped it off going 4x4ing in the sand. God bless her ;)

Before I hit you up with my little question, Ive attached a photo from a 4x4ing day at an abandoned house just east of Perth. Theres the whole crew - my beast to the left, a diesel landy trayback, a lifted SWB GQ tb42 and a GQ diesel with a fresh lift kit fitted that very day. A few fellow ratbags in the foreground with my wife showing off how we don't mind getting a bit grubby. Hope you all enjoy :bananarock:

So down to my question - Were going on a long trip up north and Im just trying to eliminate any potential sticking points before we go. The water pump will be replaced and I'm going to seal up the sump because it's leaking towards the back.

For both items, should I just stick to a new gasket? OR RTV glue instead? Or both?

PArticularly for the sump, are there any pointers out there? My mate with the SWB jacked up the engine a bit and had to take the oil pickup off. Does that sound about right?

Many thanks,

Nick

Bloody ratbags...lol....funny photo mate!

Hopefully someone can answer your other question but with gaskets mate I have always just used genuine new nissan gasket on any application and they work 100% fine, no leaks at all because they are made for the car by Nissan specifically for that spot.

I'm not a fan of added gasket sealant, etc as the nissan genuine gasket should work 100000%

THanks guys, I didn't even think of Ni$$an... I can imagine that the nissan seals would be the best money can buy. Nonetheless, my budget is pretty tight atm, so if I can avoid paying megabucks Im open to suggestion.... Anybody had experience with non-nissan stuff ?
