Many thanks for the numerous welcomes to my first blog post.
A question:
I have had conflicting information from RAC and Aus. Brakes Co..
I need to know the minimum allowable wear on a disc brake rotor.
1996 GQ LWB 4.2 efi.
Thanks
Sorry.
Should read maximum wear or minimum thickness
I would also like to know if the rear disc brake rotors are the same as the front?
There seems to be a considerable price difference in the quotes.

Hmmmm not sure myself. Sometimes they have it written on them. New rotors aren't too expensive if in doubt.
Hopefully someone else will be more helpful:)

Not sure on thickness but I always thought that rear discs were usually smaller than the fronts due to a greater braking force required at the front . Must admit I haven't check mine to see.

I can't tell you a figure but it will depend on the manufacturer of the rotors. Are they genuine or after market? Some do have it stamped into the edge of the rotor.
Rear rotors are usually a lot thinner and often solid, with a smaller minimum thickness.
How this helps somehow

As per the posts above, it is usually cast or stamped onto the rotor.
The factory manual linked to this site shows at BR35,
Brake Model CL36VA (front) 18mm,
Brake model AD20VC (Rear) 16mm
Max runout 0.07mm
I didn't see any distinction between the various models of GQ

Should be stamped on the edge of the rotor.
