A Patrol is a large and heavy vehicle with poor aerodynamics. I'd say the fuel economy with an ls1 in it would be terrible. For me, I'd reco the diesel. Plus diesel is easier to transport and more available in the outback.

This was for information purposes only. For those contimplating the conversion. The fuel economy is better than most 4500 and 4800 petrol engines.

Thanks for posting Thirsty.
Is there anyone on here that has the LS1 conversion in a patrol, if so it would be good to hear the fuel usage. I know the LS1 would use less petrol when in a commodore but i wonder how different it would be in a heavy patrol. Also, for the same money as the conversion i reckon you could put some serious kick into a 4500 patrol :)

A mate gets 17 to 18L per 100klms. Don't forget that the quote was using there engine. You could pick up a motor for half or less than what there quoting.

Not a fan of anything gm myself but if you want to save a few dollars on a conversion.
you'll also find people remapping the pcm for well under $200 on ebay and the speedo converters less then half that elsewhere.

You wont get any change out of 15k if you pay someone to do it and it will cost you around 10k if you do it yourself
